Today we’d like to introduce you to Inga Raquel Seals.
Inga, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Houston Texas and grew up in the northern part of Houston. I stayed in Houston until I went to the military in 2001. Unfortunately, while I plan to make my career military based, I was injured and I came back home. My journey continued, with me having my first daughter at age 21, and my second daughter at age 26… Becoming a young mother completely changed my perception of life.
Throughout my 20’s, I survived homelessness, chronic depression, physical abuse, and heart disease. I reached a low point after I had my second child, it was then that I realized only I could create change. In 2009, I started doing yoga at home to lose weight. I didn’t have a car at the time, so I also started walking every day. The practice of yoga helped me to live myself more, and to see the worth in who I am. After 5 years of at home/gym practice, I decided that I wanted to teach yoga and share this inspiring practice that had helped me so much.
I received my 200HR teaching certification from Lex Gillan with The Yoga Institute in 2015. As my love for .yoga continued to grow, my thirst for knowledge grew as well. I began studying .and practicing meditation, and sharing the power of connecting with silence and stillness. In 2016, I found the practice of ButiYoga. This intense, self-centered practice opened parts of me I did not know existed. After learning that my energy was meant to be shared, I began studying Reiki in 2016. Once again, I discovered a form of service to share from within myself.
Through this journey, I continue to serve the community and be a student of life. I truly believe that while healing and saving myself, I found my life’s meaning. Sharing this practice has led to so much human connection and the gift of life in its most vulnerable form. I am filled with inspiration daily from the people that yoga has brought into my life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, but my survival is my greatest inspiration.
Having both my children was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Because I was in physically and mentally abusive relationships both times, I found myself in very dark places mentally. After having each one of them, I had a very intense case of postpartum depression. I experienced feelings of wanting to hurt myself, unworthiness, and helplessness. My survival of these times was long and difficult, but I’m essentially grateful for all the difficulties that life has presented. My oldest daughter was 3 years old, I was in a toxic relationship that landed me without a place to live.
Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how severe the situation was until this happened. It took me 3 months to pick up the pieces of my life and put them back together, and during this time I had a minor heart attack. I did not realize what was happening until I woke up in the hospital. This was one of the lowest points of my life, and I became very deeply depressed. Eventually, I was on the brink of being obese and in a very unhealthy state of mind.
Looking back on all of this, I have grown into a strong powerful being! All of life’s difficulties I have molded me into the person I am today. I truly believe that there is nothing more powerful than saving yourself, and we are all capable of extraordinary things!
Please tell us about Inga – The Yoga Goddess.
“You cannot pour from an empty cup. This is what yoga has taught me. Yoga saved my life. After survival of heart disease, obesity, and depression, my yoga practice is my sanctuary. My philosophy is that through yoga, you can create and build your inner power by taking the time for yourself and listening to your body. We all have everything we need inside of us to be happier, to create positive change in our world, to be a good human and have compassion for one another.”
My specialty and passion is to share the practice in a way that speaks to the soul of the practitioner and empowers them to create and embrace the many obstacles and triumphs of life. Through the practice of Reiki, meditation, and various forms of yoga, anyone with patience and love in their heart can change their own lives. I aspire to learn and inspire from my own journey to help and serve the community.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
At one point in my life, I would have answered this question with a slew of so-called regrets and moments of supposed weakness and suffering.
I truly now believe that are suffering happens for us and not to us. There are no coincidences, and there are no accidents. Even when we reach painful points in our life, they are meant to teach us lessons. With that being said, I would not change anything.
