Today we’d like to introduce you to Isael Zuniga .
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am known in the martial arts community as Izzy or Kru Izzy, I am 41 years old and I am still active in the fights, always trying to set a good example in this community and in my family. I started in boxing in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico when I was 15 years old, that was the sport of the town. Until I saw a video of the UFC that rents in Blockbuster and a guy who used the technique of elbows to finish with his rivals. Soldier gym was the first Muay Thai camp that I attended, I made my way quickly among the fighters earning the respect of my teammates. My second gym was Thai champ forming part of the team of fighters in the prestigious gym. My third gym was the already disappeared Puro Azteca Mma, forming part of the group of fighters. Start teaching traditional Muay Thai in SBA around 4 years. Work 1 year and 6 months in Gracie Barra TX imparting kind of traditional Muay Thai. Izzy camp, my first gym, 1 year and six months opening the way to independence, a big step to own my own gym. MuayThaiCorner, not partners or intermediaries, started in my backyard, in 2014, creating a generation of children that nowadays have 9 amateur champions, some of them in two different tournaments. I have had fights in Mexico, USA and Thailand. This year I plan to retire through the front door, fighting at Lumpinee Stadium.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe that nothing is easy in life, without sacrifices there is no benefit … it is one of my favorite slogans and all the time I say it and I repeat it to my students, to my family, to get to the point where I am to teach for almost 5 years for free without charging a single dollar, I’ve been a corner of professional MMA fighters without charging anything, that time spent in sports was time that is not dedicated to my family and that’s the hard part , time with my children and my wife, but this sport is my passion. And that is to mention something, where the road has not been easy.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Muay Thai Corner – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
One of the things that makes me feel very proud of my gym, is to be able to say, that all the achievements that we have obtained are based on pure heart, the mutual help of each of the students inside and outside the gym, we unite to help someone when a difficult problem is happening, an example, when my wife had breast cancer, we all meet to collect money for treatment, as well as surgery … in training always live a harmony of camaraderie and if a young person arrives with bullying problems, we take care to make him feel as a family and tell him that he is not alone, that he has us.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Fight in Thailand again, at the Lumpinee stadium, expansion of Muay Thai Corner to a larger location.
