Today we’d like to introduce you to Isidra Serrano.
Isidra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband and I migrated from Mexico in 1994. He became a construction worker, while I was buser at a restaurant. I got a job as a cook at a Mexican restaurant a couple of years later. In early 2005, I quit the job that I had been at for almost a decade and decided to open up my own taco truck with my family. We initially parked next to an ice-house in Channelview, Texas, but it was not what we expected. It was a rough start. The search for a new location began. Thanks to my son, we were able to find the perfect spot in Crosby, Texas right to Joe’s Barber Shop. With the years, we were able to turn that little taco truck into a permanent establishment and have been sharing the taste of real Mexican food with the Crosby community since 2005.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We had a rough start. We found ourselves working 16 hours a day, Monday through Sunday. The fact that sales were low and that the taco truck had mechanical problems motivated us to move to another location.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tacos Tacos – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Tacos Tacos is an authentic Mexican Taqueria that makes tacos from scratch using fresh ingredients and cooking on the spot. We are known for our homemade tortillas and friendly customer service.
I’m proud of how much we have grown thanks to the support of the community.
Tacos Tacos is not your typical taco stand where you grab your food and go. We don’t make customers, we make friends.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Even though we have grown tremendously in the past few years, we still feel like we have the capacity to grow some more up to the point of opening new locations.
