Today we’d like to introduce you to Izzy Spell
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve had a love for drawing since I was a kid. Growing up with a dad who was an art teacher, I learned techniques early on. My mom also bought me stacks of coloring books, so my life revolved around art and creativity.
I took art classes throughout elementary and high school, and further developed my drawing skills that gravitated more towards darker themes and imagery. I also started entering pieces in a few local shows, and even drew a few tattoo designs for friends, and that’s when I knew that tattooing was my calling.
After a few attempts, I was thrilled to find a shop that took me on as an apprentice. After my apprenticeship I branched out on my own so I could focus more on developing my own style. I’m grateful for the community and clients in Houston, and those who have visited me from out of town that share my love for dark, spooky tattooed and art.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any career there are ups and downs, but I’m grateful to be able to make a living doing what I love. I’m thankful for what I’ve learned and the challenges that I have faced, they’ve only helped make me a stronger person and artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Thematically I specialize in creating dark black and grey tattoos. The subject matter is mostly focused on Halloween themes, horror, and overall eerie designs, sometimes with a little light-hearted twist at times. I believe this unique focus sets me apart in the tattoo community.
