Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan and Jessica Lomeli.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Juan and Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started photography one day when things weren’t looking too good financially. I had purchased a camera, a couple of years prior, mainly for family vacations and such, when one day I looked at the camera sitting there and a light bulb lit up. To which I decided to take on photography as a new source of income. Luckily for me, I have an uncle who’s been in the photography business for more than forty years, so I turned to him for some advice. I did some countless hours of training with him, for wedding events, or Quinceañeras, he had at the time, along with doing numerous photo sessions for free, to get more experience and exposure.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. We all have struggles, at least, I think so. Without the struggles, we don’t grow. I think my biggest challenge is having too much to do, meaning getting overworked. I can spend hours and hours on the computer and I can easily forget about my responsibilities as a father or husband. Luckily I have my beautiful wife, who is always there to remind me about my duties as a father and husband. I guess that’s why we make a good team. She helps me balance both my work and my normal life.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
We are a family business and my children play a big part in all of this as well. They support us one hundred percent, all of them have good an eye for photography, as well as taken classes for it too. In all honestly, we specialize in everything. We enjoy what we do, that’s why it’s hard to decide and specialize in one single type of photography. We have thought about it occasionally, though we’re probably ready to say ‘let’s stick with this type of photography.’ We are proud of our business, on how we stared with nothing and have been able to make something of it. With hard work and dedication, we’re always learning new things and setting the bar high.
What sets us apart maybe that my wife and I have countless hours behind the lens and have mastered the technique for our clients to have the best experience possible in their photo sessions or event.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I view success as: to continue thriving even though you know it’s difficult! For me, success is not defined on gold or treasures. Success is to do what you love, what you’re passionate about, as long as what you are doing is good, of course. I love photography and if it was for me, I’d be doing it for free, but they pay me for it, so that’s a success. Don’t you agree?
