Meet Jack Perry of Doorstep Digital in Galleria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Perry.

Jack is an experienced photographer and videographer of over 15 years. Jack and his family have experienced first-hand the priceless value of saving photos and videos. In December 2011, Jack’s home and home office were destroyed by fire. Jack recovered thousands of images because he had backed up his photos and videos in the cloud. Without Jack’s diligent preparation, the Perry family would have lost its most precious images – from birthdays to baseball games to violin recitals. Jack Perry’s personal experience and professional connections across the USA has led him to create Doorstep Digital to help you Save Yesterday for Tomorrow ™.

Jack is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a BBA in Information Systems and emphasis in Digital File Management. (He also has a passion for Latin Culture and holds a BA in Spanish from Texas A&M as well.) Working with his photography and videography clients, Jack has developed a user-friendly solution to organize and digitize personal files, particularly images, video, and priceless content. In his personal life Jack enjoys coaching girls’ soccer with SBMSA, church worship and community involvement with his family at Christ The King Presbyterian, jogging, swimming, and practicing hot yoga at Yoga One.

He looks to his family for inspiration. His heroes are his wife Julie, mother Helen Perry, and his uncle John Sage. They all share the common strength of being gifted whole people of faith triumphing over very difficult situations. Jack loves to read old books about Winston Churchill. “Never Ever Quit. Never Ever Ever” – Churchill

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business ownership with Doorstep Digital has been very rewarding. However, being a brand new business concept, the first 6 months were extremely difficult to keep afloat. I had to dig deep into my marketing creativity to get our message of secure, local, and independent cloud storage out. Everyone loved our concept and our expertise, but we just needed to get in front of the right situations.

We focused on great photo/video/written web site content to efficiently get our message out. Slowly, it finally worked!

We secured a large project in Austin. Then more in Houston. Often times, we’d be busier in Austin than Houston. That was a good problem to have!

My visionary and founding investor partner pulled out of the business pretty quickly after oil began to dip very low around June or 2014. The grand expansion plans of 5 countries in 5 years became slowed, but not completely stopped.

With the loss of our capital backing, we focused on large projects with families and in 2016 added private cloud storage installs with Synology. That has really helped complete our offering for a more secure, independent storage device for families.

My partner’s grand vision however inspired me to think beyond Houston. Beyond Texas. And we did. In fun fashion!

I asked a buddy of mine Kirby Trapolino at one of our weekly get togethers, “What is a cool city?” He said “Seattle. Seattle is really cool”.

I asked my wife, “What city do you long to visit and explore?” She said, “Chicago.”

We expended into Chicago and Seattle as test markets outside of Texas. Since 2014, we have serviced some amazing clients and digital archiving projects: from helping Jewish families preserving their memories in downtown Chicago to family owned businesses in Seattle preserving their company history.

In 2017 working projects in Seattle and Los Angeles, I got to realize a dream of driving down the entire Pacific Coast on hwy 1 in one of our vans. I had told my partner when we started that I would do that. He laughed and said I was crazy. But…I did it; an amazing trip down hwy 1 from Seattle to Los Angeles.

1) We have a video production and photography and IT background. This helps us give our clients a holistic approach to preserving their priceless memories.

2) We are a mobile digital archiving service that serves currently 7 cities. No mail off. All work done locally for more secure treatment of the collection.

3) We help families get off the public clouds and onto Independent Servers that they can better control.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Calling my friend 3 blocks down on our same street (Pagewood) in Larchmont and telling him I’ll race you to see who can get the farthest before we meet. “Ready”. “Go”. I’d hang up the phone and run to meet him on Pagewood. He was faster than me, but not by much. Little games like that with friends kept things light, fun, outdoors, and kept us competitive.
