Meet Jackie and Aubrey Spigener of Silver Sycamore in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie and Aubrey Spigener.

Jackie and Aubrey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started as The Silver Sycamore Tea Room in a restored 1900’s house. From there we expanded with the addition of a reception hall for events and weddings. Then, we had the idea of giving Pasadena something upscale and resort style to bring people in to our city. So, we added on the bed & breakfast with our Tiny Texas Cottages, before they were popular might I add.

For a while there, we shut the Tea Room down, because we were having so many private parties that it was getting to be too much. So, we were only using it for those. Then, the community begged us for about 2 years to reopen and we did as Pine Street Cafe at Silver Sycamore. We now serve huge, delicious burgers, which are known as the best burgers in town. Along with those, we serve breakfast and brunch every day and wide variety of menu items for lunch. We include healthy and not so healthy items.

Our most recent addition was Sycamoreville. A fully-functioning western town, complete with a little white chapel, a hotel & saloon and even a jail. That’s where the grooms get ready for their big day.

We are constantly adding on and have some plans for the future to really make this a resort oasis for the community and out of town guests to enjoy. We hold community events and private parties, you can come for a delicious meal or even an overnight getaway.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Our biggest struggle is that we are in Pasadena and in the middle of a neighborhood. Once people find us, they love us, but that is the hardest part. The media and even the citizens of Pasadena paint such a negative view of the city that people don’t want to even search for anything here. They would rather go into Houston or down by the water, which is understandable, but when you have something of such high quality so close we wonder why you wouldn’t go.

There is also the struggle of people not knowing every part to our business. They know we’re an event venue, but don’t know we have a restaurant. They know we have a restaurant but don’t know we have a venue or bed and breakfast. That is one reason we rebranded the restaurant to Pine Street Cafe at Silver Sycamore, to give a little differentiation.

Mainly, we aren’t on a main road, so people just head up to Fairmont without even thinking about their favorite little place on Pine Street!

Please tell us about Silver Sycamore.
We are the Silver Sycamore Events Resort. Our business is comprised of our restaurant, Pine Street Cafe at Silver Sycamore, our bed & breakfast, 2 coffee shops called Sycamore Grounds and our event venue. I think the one thing we pride ourselves on is our impeccable service. We are not just like every other restaurant or every other venue. We care for each of our guests and make a personal connection with them.

For our restaurant, what sets us apart is our completely fresh food. We get deliveries every other day sometimes every day with fresh ingredients, premium beef and homemade bread.

For our venue, we have the only fully-functioning western town in the US that we are aware of. Our guests can literally rent an entire town and even name it after themselves.

Besides just the town, we only do one wedding a day. This makes it to where we can give our guests all of our focus.

Our coffee shops are definitely the favorites. We have 2 locations. One is in a restored 1900’s home and the other is in an iconic location in Pasadena. People love us because we aren’t Starbucks. We are kind, genuine and really just love coffee.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was awarded the honor of being the first ever girl drum major at South Houston High School. Leading the band during Friday Night Lights will always bring back special memories.
