Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack’s Project
Hi Jack’s Project, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jack’s Project started 7 years ago in honor of my cousin, Jack Morgan who was re-diagnosed with Acute Lymphoid Leukemia. During this time, the Lord called me to bring “light to the darkness.” This was inspired by Matthew 5:16: “In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Jack’s Project was formed through this calling. After witnessing Jack’s Journey there was ways in which we are able to bring light into the darkness. We aim to bring joy to kids, hope to families, and the true meaning of life to all. We do this by collecting toys and toiletries and distributing these items to those in need. We first started to accomplish this mission by holding an annual drive in which we collect donations from community members and bring those items to Texas Children’s Hospital for patients to receive all year. Over the years, we have expanded our mission such as having a yearly sponsor family that we give necessities and Christmas toys to each year. We also host a free community event called “Jump Start” where everyone can come together and enjoy free food, live music, shopping, pictures with Santa, livestock, and an opportunity to give or donate blood. We also have started an annual banquet that we will hold each year in November. Each year, God has opened up doors to work alongside new members of the community, bless thousands of families, and create new ideas to grow the mission of Jack’s Project. The newest celebration is that Jack’s Project is an official 501 C3 Non-Profit Organization as of this past year. We are so excited to see what all will continue to come out of this organization. It is a gift to be a part of. -Rylee Burris (President)
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been some struggles along the way. With any sort of new organization, you have to work out logistical kinks such as learning how to effectively communicate to donation locations, the best ways to sort and package the items, and how to encourage community members to be on a mission with us. However, each obstacle has brought new knowledge, wisdom, and new problem-solving skills that we can carry for a life time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the past 7 years we have become known as an organization that collects items for Texas Children’s Hospital, specifically in the Woodlands, TX. The Woodlands location was where Jack received treatment during his battle with cancer and was the start of where this journey started. From there, we have expanded that calling taking many next steps as an organization. This has been shown through our community events and service opportunities. We have been most proud of the people and volunteers who have faithfully said yes in joining us in our mission. These individuals consistently serve with a huge joy for the heartbeat of Jack’s Project. In the past few years, the Lord has provided so many friends, family members, businesses, community members, schools, and organizations that have partnered with us. Our volunteers and organization are led by our board of directors which includes Rylee Burris (President), who is graduating from Texas A&M University in the Spring of 2025, Jared Yawn (Vice President), an employee at Friendswood High School, and Parker Richardson (Secretary), Connections Pastor at High Point Church.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
As a Jack’s Project team, we believe that learning from people is a gift that we get to have here on earth. Seeking wise counsel and hearing others’ experiences allows one to gain lots of wisdom and understanding. We all gain insight from podcasts, music, sermons, etc., but trust the greatest book of all time, which is the Bible. Everything we do and believe in comes from the Bible.
