Meet Jacqueline Bostic-McElroy of Fitzgerald & McElroy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Bostic-McElroy.

Empowering people to live the life they desire and helping them accomplish their life goals is Jacqueline Bostic McElroy’s mission. The native Houstonian is an attorney who has dedicated her time and efforts to ensuring her clients, and the people she serves through her volunteer efforts are able to take advantage of the freedoms, rights and privileges afforded to all U.S. citizens.

Growing up in Houston’s Third Ward, she was introduced to volunteerism and advocacy through the dedication of her family. She saw first-hand the positive impact her parents and other relatives made in the lives of various people. This influence is why she elected law as her profession.

McElroy received a BBA in marketing from Texas Southern University. She then earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. The same law school in which she is currently an adjunct professor. McElroy enjoys teaching and developing young legal minds and sharing in their growth as attorneys.

She is a managing partner of Fitzgerald & McElroy P.C., a boutique law firm that provides strategic legal solutions and advocacy for its’ clients in business, civil litigation and immigration matters. Prior to opening her current firm, she had her own practice, J.F. Bostic & Associates.

When a corporate giant breached a contract with one of her small business clients, McElroy was able to get justice and a major settlement. She considers this victory for her client as one of the highlights of her career. Another highlight was gaining U.S. asylum for a woman who was persecuted and raped for her political beliefs in a foreign country.

Her advocacy spirit doesn’t stop once she leaves the office. For the past two years, she has been the Board Chair of the Greater Houston YWCA. She follows in the footsteps of her mother, who once held the same position in the 150-year-old organization.

Since being elected to her current position, the non-profit has started the Young Women’s Leadership Council for high school and college students and the Tech Gyrls STEM Camp. Other programs that have been implemented during her tenure are an advocacy committee and a philanthropic membership club. Various seminars and lectures on human trafficking, racial injustice, equal pay and maternal mortality have been provided to members and friends of the organization. In addition, a food pantry, in collaboration with the Houston Food Bank, has been opened at the organization’s facility.

Jaqueline has served on several local boards. When she was a Friends of Emancipation Park board member, she helped host Easter Egg Hunts and community events for area children. In addition, she served as a mentor and board member for the Living Forward Alliance for two years. The service and education program is dedicated to women with criminal justice histories who are on community supervision for drug-related offenses and living in a residential facility under the supervision of the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department.

Keeping in-line with her purpose, McElroy and her husband Art have founded the Penuel Group Inc. A Christian based organization that allows people to increase their knowledge about Jesus Christ through a digital platform. This technology won the couple the Innovator Award for the Top 50 Professionals and Entrepreneurs from the DMars Business Journal. She is 2018 Wheeler Avenue’s Women’s Guild Audrey Lawson Impact Award Honoree and received a community service award at Melodrama’s 15th anniversary.

Jacqueline is a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where her great-great-grandfather, Jack Yates, was the first minister. She is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Houston 20 (an organization that raises money and supports efforts to fight human trafficking) E-women Network, Rotary International and American Immigration Lawyers Association.

“I come from a family of advocates. My mother instilled in me the importance of respecting and helping others. She always told me that your attitude determines your altitude. I have always had a passion to fight for and uplift others.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Initially, when I first went out on my own it was challenging. While law school trains you to be a lawyer, it doesn’t prepare you for how to run a business. There were a few bumps along the way. However, I have been very blessed to have mentors and others who advised me on business and the law. I also read took classes and read material that would help me. I still continue to take classes and read material that can enhance my business. I believe that it is important to continue to grow.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fitzgerald & McElroy – what should we know?
My company is a law firm. Our firm focuses on business litigation, immigration and personal injury cases. We are trial lawyers. We can and will fight to protect and advance the rights of our clients.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion and if I could choose the second one, it would be integrity.
