Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Ybarra.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Living Local HTX started as a food Instagram that highlighted businesses local to Houston under the name Local Grub Houston. After the birth of my daughter, I wanted my page to represent me- not just as a foodie, but as a mother, educator, and amateur chef.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth having is easy. So no, things have not always been perfect. The greatest obstacle was me- there have been times when I got in my own way. Often worrying if I was good enough, creative enough, or brave enough to put myself out there. However, I have decided to embrace the idea that growth often happens in our discomfort and I am leaning into it in order to grow and succeed!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most proud that I am truly and unapologetically myself. I often tell people that my page and business contain “imperfect content from my imperfect life”. Things aren’t heavily filtered, and if I didn’t like a dish at a restaurant or a product I received, I am not sharing it for the sake of content.
My greatest enjoyment this year has been documenting and sharing my favorite recipes. I love to cook, I am pretty good at it, and I am excited to share them with my followers.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The diversity in Houston is my absolute favorite thing about it. You could eat a dish from most regions of the world in one city- that is pretty fantastic. Additionally, I feel like the diversity is a first-class opportunity to be a lifelong learner by immersing ourselves in the various cultures represented here. There are so many opportunities to learn from and celebrate others.
Least favorite? Traffic. That’s an easy one.
