Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaleel Brown.
Jaleel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started making music in high school with my friends. I use to record all my music on really cruddy equipment until I started studying sound engineering and mixing techniques on YouTube. That’s where I fell in love with the process of making music
Eventually, I started recording other artists at my school and in Missouri city while rapping under the name ‘Chief Aleel.’
My group’s name used to be “The Rocketeers,” but we grew out of it and now go by ROCKET. They are my biggest influence. We work hard fuck from an in-house production base. Recording , Co-Producing, Mixing, distributing, marketing, and financing. We are a music collective that understands the power of a strong business mindset while having fun creating whatever we want no matter the obstacle teamwork dedication and failure has gotten me to where I’m at today, and I’m excited for what’s to come
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has its ups and downs.
The biggest struggles for me are more internal than external.
Learning to balance your day to day life while maintaining a six man label schedule.
It requires a lot of sacrifice dedication and thick skin. Not everybody is going to feel your ideas and opinions that’s just part of the process.
I use to have the worst anxiety attacks right before shows and get this awful cringe feeling that felt like someone was stabbing me in the stomach, but that shit taught me how to level up and now I go harder than ever whenever I touch the stage. I want everyone that comes out to our shows to have as much fun listening to our music as we did making it.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work at H-Town Studios and offer artists studio time, beats, mixing & mastering and also advice on their music marketing strategies.
H-Town Studios is one of my favorite studios in Houston.
We really have all different types of bands and artists from all over the city come through. You can catch inspiration just by hanging around.
The room My team and Ricky Rubio use feels like the hyperbolic time chamber because sometimes we spend 2 to 18 hours at a time in they’re just going in. You can tell that everybody in there is serious about their craft and I think that type of environment is what creates a space for a lot of good music to be made
What were you like growing up?
I grew up really goofy and hyper; I think it’s from growing up in Ohio and having ADHD.
I like to think I’m like an onion and you just have to keep peeling back layers to understand me. (That was corny, but I didn’t know what else to put)
