Meet Kyla Wright, James and Alexandra “Sasha” Clark of Mosquito Cafe in Galveston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Wright, James and Alexandra “Sasha” Clark.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We are truly a family owned and operated small business restaurant. There are 5 family members that oversee and participate in the day to day operations of the business. Our family has a lot of roots in the rich history of Galveston as well as in the food service industry. We combined our Galveston history and food service experience and made our small restaurant a prominent member of the community and provided a welcoming and one of a kind dining experience to our guests. We provide fresh homemade delicious food with style using our own unique recipes and fresh baked breads and bakery desserts. Our slogan is “One Bite Is All It Takes”.

Has it been a smooth road?
The food service industry always has struggles but you just keep focused and make sure that the show must go on no matter what. Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston as well as the restaurant but we rebuilt and came back even stronger than before the hurricane. Perseverance is mandatory in this line of work.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Prepare for an enjoyable…no, extraordinary culinary experience. Opened in May 1999, this little bistro was selected by the Zagat Survey (America’s most prestigious restaurant guide) as One of the Top 15 Restaurants in the Houston Metropolitan Area and the Top “Eclectic-International” Category. Also voted by Galveston County residents as Best Overall Restaurant in Galveston County, Best Breakfast, Best Business Lunch and number one in Friendliest Service.

At Mosquito Café you’ll find very fresh, homemade, eclectic, trendy food, a warm casual atmosphere, and friendly helpful service. Our guests upon perusing the menu and chalkboard specials place their order with the cashier, select a table of their choice and sit back and relax. Our staff delivers the entrées, silverware, napkins, refreshes beverages, clears plates upon finishing, take dessert orders and will fulfill any guest request.

We look forward to serving you in our restored 1853 location in the East End Historical District of Galveston Island.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
This business is a very hard business but if you have a good location, a good product that you wholeheartedly believe in, and a passion to connect and take care of your guests then you can be successful.
