Three years ago, I was an environmental sustainability executive working for a Fortune 1000 company in Northern NJ. I’ve always wanted to own my own business and after a tragedy that caused a lot of self-reflection decided to pursue that goal. I quit my job and proceeded to search for a business opportunity. I’ve always been interested in health & fitness and all things outdoors, I decided to see if I could find a related business. I became keenly interested in the boutique fitness space and began investigating opportunities. During my search, I stumbled across SPENGA a new fitness concept based in Chicago. I fell in love with the concept and decide to pursue it. I was one of the early franchisees and had the first choice for markets across the US. After evaluating the various markets, I decided to come to Houston to began my journey.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not smooth at all. In fact, it’s been a worst-case scenario. Construction delays, permit delays, Slow startup.

Yes! Definitely Houston is great for small businesses. Although the permitting process is onerous in that is very slow (6 months).
