Today we’d like to introduce you to James Knowles.
James, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I retired from active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard. I had been performing Search and Rescue, Maritime Law Enforcement, Pollution Response, and other duties for 20 years. I was now entering a new phase of life as a retiree and as a physically disabled veteran.
When I was introduced to hypnotherapy for my own benefit I wanted to know more about it. So I set about finding a respectable, reputable, and fully accredited program of hypnotherapy training and certification. I finally came across a training program with The Hypnosis Motivation Institute-College of Hypnotherapy in Tarzana Ca. Founded in 1968 by Dr. John G. Kappas.
I interviewed with the school, and decided I wanted to learn what they were teaching. I enrolled in their introductory course and when I had completed that, I enrolled in their advanced course for my Hypnotherapist certification. It was challenging to complete the 12 months and 300 hours of instruction but the time and effort was well worth the knowledge and experience gained.
I completed my training and successfully earned my diploma in hypnotherapy. I pursued advanced certifications that I saw as useful. Then this past year I began building my private hypnotherapy practice from the foundation up.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The public’s perception and understanding of hypnosis and hypnotherapy and the benefits it can have for people’s lives is still based on old worn out myths and superstitions from a bygone era.
Even with all the positive research and findings about hypnosis from major institutions which is publicly available today. People fear what they don’t understand but they can educate themselves and realize there is nothing to be fearful of.
No one controls your mind or any such thing as that and you cannot be persuaded to do anything you don’t want to do. You’re fully aware of what’s going on during your hypnosis session.
It is a specialized field and hypnotherapy is a standalone profession according to the Federal Dictionary of Occupational Titles published by the United States Department of Labor. It takes time, education, training, money, and effort just like any true profession does.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the James Knowles- Hypnotherapist & Certified Master Hypnotist story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a certified hypnotherapist and certified master hypnotist in private practice and I provide clients with an encouraging, positive, and supportive environment in which to seek help and solutions to their unique and individual issues. I assist them with their best interest in mind. By my having the best and most thorough accredited training and education available in hypnotherapy and hypnosis, in order to provide for my clients the best care in my commitment to helping others help themselves.
As a hypnotherapist I induce the hypnotic state in a client to increase their motivation or alter behavior patterns through hypnosis. I consult with clients to determine the nature of their problem or issues. I prepare clients to enter the hypnotic states by explaining to them how hypnosis works and what the client will experience. I test subjects to determine degrees of physical and emotional suggestibility. I induce hypnotic techniques of hypnosis based on interpretation of test results and an analysis of clients’ problem. And I may train clients in self-hypnosis conditioning.
After the conclusion of the session I will give the client a recording with their permission of course, of only the hypnosis portion of their session, so they can reinforce the suggestions for self- change and re-experience their customized state of hypnosis at their leisure when and where they want.
Hypnotherapy and hypnosis offers unique and effective ways to cope with present or past behavioral or personal issues. Some of which may be stress reduction, anxiety elimination, behavior change, habits change, goal achievement, sports improvement, improved self-confidence, higher self-esteem, better health, weight control, pain management, better study habits and recall, overcoming fears, hypnosis is an effective and drug free way that improves a person’s quality of life for them in a positive way. I am a professional belief system enhancer.
I specialize in hope and hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is the short answer. I hold certifications from the American Hypnosis Association as a Certified Specialist in Hypnosis and Weight Loss, a Certified Specialist in Hypnosis and Pain Management, and a Certified Specialist in Smoking Cessation. So vocational and avocational self-improvement areas.
Unlike Psychologists and Medical Doctors, the Hypnotherapist is the ONLY professional specifically trained to work in these areas. In fact, the Hypnosis Motivation Institute graduate has more hours, length and depth of training in hypnotherapy than any other healthcare professional.
In this country, two thirds of the adult population are overweight, one third smoke cigarettes and 70 percent suffer from some form of insomnia. It is probably safe to say that 95 percent of the people you know would like to improve in some area or another. Sports performance, confidence, motivation and more as already mentioned are all the specialty area of the Hypnotherapist.
I’m known for having a wide and varied range of life experience which gives me the ability to get in rapport with and relate to and understand people from most any walk of life or employment background and some of the challenges they may be facing.
People like people who are like themselves. I can especially understand the military members and their families’ challenges and issues. Having been there myself for some 20 years and being deployed both on land and at sea for extended periods. It’s sometimes rough on a family system and the member’s dependents. So I also have a solid rapport with military members and dependents as well veterans. Thanks to my own years of work in the field of Search and Rescue and law enforcement I have the ability to understand and help first responders with challenges and issues as well.
Clients value the fact that I first and foremost truly listen to them and hear what they share with me, and that I sincerely care about assisting them with their challenges and obstacles to change, regardless of their background or economic position in life. I want them to succeed in improving their lives for the better.
I am most proud of my clients successes and the positive changes I see in their lives as a result of my efforts to help them. Some of the positive personal changes I have seen in clients are nothing short of astounding.
All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis. I assist clients in facilitating and achieving their desired outcomes by utilizing the vast resources within their own unconscious mind. My clients’ success is my success.
I work with the 88 % of their unconscious mind and they work with the day to day 12% of their conscious mind and together we can have 100% success in their goal achievements. It does take some work and effort on both our parts and there is no such a thing as a quick fix though hypnotherapy tends to be quicker than and more effective than traditional forms of therapy.
Our commitment to quality of service and care for our clients’ needs is our top priority. That’s why we pursued extensive training in Hypnotherapy at HMI’s College of Hypnotherapy which has earned the distinction of being the first hypnotherapy training program to become nationally accredited, by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, in Washington, D.C.
My investment in the best says volumes about my commitment to excellence and determination for my clients’ success. Their investment in the best says volumes about their commitment to excellence and their determination for success.
My extensive training and knowledge of hypnosis and hypnotherapy and broad range of personal life experiences give me a vast array of tools with which to help my clients. I completed a 12 month and 300 hour course of instruction in hypnotherapy from the nation’s only Nationally Accredited College of Hypnotherapy including an internship of practical experience under the supervision of staff instructors.
HMI’s College of Hypnotherapy has been called the `Harvard Of Hypnotherapy’ for good reason. It’s as close to a Master’s Degree in Hypnotherapy as you will get. I also hold certifications from the American Hypnosis Association of which I am a professional member and also the American Hypnotherapist Union from which I received my certification as a Master Hypnotist. I am also certified as a Handwriting Analyst for personal, business, or law enforcement purposes.
What were you like growing up?
I guess you could say I was curious with an insatiable appetite for knowledge and answers to questions about life. My mother always encouraged me to read and learn new things. Knowledge can be a powerful tool. Wisdom gained from using that knowledge even more so.
I was trained in and also taught the martial art of Chung Do Kwan-Tae Kwan Do. As with most martial arts it trains the mind, body and spirit at one time. Truly powerful and life changing mind- body work.
Someone once said that I’m a very old soul, and I’m here to represent my highest self who sent me. Everything that happens in our lives happens for a reason. We just don’t know the reason until after it manifests itself to us.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know if you should call it Luck or Synchronicity. They seem to be one in the same. The right things occur in your life at the right time and right place for the most beneficial outcome. However, you still have to have driven and effort to accomplish goals and achieve your desires.
