Meet James Liu of Adult & Pediatric ENT & Allergy of The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Liu.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Starting in sixth grade, I knew I wanted to be a physician. My brother and sister are both physicians, and I knew that I wanted to follow suit and pursue medicine. I worked hard throughout school, and my passion for medicine and focus led me to finishing high school early. I started my undergrad at the University of Houston when I was 14. After obtaining my degree in Biology, I entered in to Baylor College of Medicine at the age of 17. At the end of my first year of medical school, I knew I wanted to focus on Otolaryngology. I continued with the same passion and focus throughout medical school and graduated in 1992, at the age of 21. I pursued General Surgery at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center, and then continued with UT-Southwestern for my residency in Otolaryngology. I focused on Pediatric Otolaryngology during my fellowship at the Medical Center of Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital. I worked as a partner of a multi-physician clinic for 13 and a half years before realizing I wanted a change. With the support of my family, I opened Adult & Pediatric ENT & Allergy of The Woodlands on January 15, 2014.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Medicine is never a smooth road. However, to make it through medicine, you have to be able to adapt to whatever situation presents itself to you. In 2014, I made the change from being a physician in a busy multi-partner clinic to being the sole physician at my own clinic starting with a single digit patient load. Making a change as big as that is never easy. Thankfully, it all worked out.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Adult & Pediatric ENT & Allergy of The Woodlands story. Tell us more about the business.
We opened the doors of Adult & Pediatric ENT & Allergy of The Woodlands in January 2014. As an ENT clinic, we focus on ear, nose, throat, and allergy in pediatric, adult, and geriatric clients. Our team includes Audiologists, Lactation Consultants, Nurses, and Medical Assistants. We specialize in many areas, including: sinus disease, tongue and lip ties, allergies, and hearing troubles. As a company, we are proud of treating the individual conditions of each patient and providing treatment options specifically for that patient. Something that sets us apart is that we are the only office in The Woodlands that has a full time Fellowship trained Pediatric ENT.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“I’m a Great Believer in Luck. The harder I work, the more luck I have”. This quote is a good representative of luck for me in life and business. Luck is nothing without hard work and determination to get what you need out of life. I’ve worked hard throughout school and life to open my own clinic and to live like I do now.
