Meet James Morris of TMC Workforce Solutions in City Center / Energy Corridor

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Morris.

James Morris is the President and CEO of the TMC Solutions companies. TMC Solutions is made up of four independent privately held companies operating across the United States (TMC Workforce and Staffing Solutions, TMC Supply Chain Solutions, TMC Virtual Assistant Solutions – Mexico and TMC Logistics / Freight Solutions).

Before starting TMC Solutions, James Morris spent over 20 years supporting Value Added Warehousing and Supply Chain Management industries across the world where he held Leadership positions with Compaq / HP and Banta / RR Donnelley. James left corporate America in 2010 to join the leadership team of a well-known Houston based Staff Augmentation firm and in 2016, through acquisition, TMC Workforce Solutions was born.

TMC has a business presence in Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, Arizona and Wisconsin.

Since our formation, TMC Solutions has sought to be a company that inspires trust. We do this by providing cutting-edge Solutions to meet customer needs through our core businesses being, Staffing Solutions, Warehousing, IT and Logistics Freight Solutions, while at the same time strengthening ties with our customers supporting Manufacturing, Distribution Fulfillment and Consumer Electronics companies around the world.

TMC will constantly strive to be a company that continues to grow by strengthening and hybridizing our core businesses, while actively taking on challenges in markets like Packaging and Distribution, Materials Management, Procurement Services and Cybersecurity.

In line with our corporate philosophy of “ Respecting our employees and customer’s – Money, Morals and Morale” we will continue to focus our core activities through the enhancement of Customer Service and Employee Engagement.

TMC Solutions will seek to increase our corporate value by attaching importance to interactions with customers, suppliers and employees while continuing to grow alongside them. At TMC Solutions we are convinced that by doing the right things the right way we contribute to the creation of an improved society.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At start up, TMC was fortunate to be able to close contracts with four Fortune 500 companies across the country. This allowed TMC  to begin business with over 400 employees in a short period of time. While on the surface this was a great opportunity we quickly learned that paying 400 employees weekly when our clients are paying net 45 is quite a challenge. Working capital restraints nearly drove TMC out of business. Through the nurturing of appropriate banking relationships, we were able to connect with financial institution BB&T that trusted TMC enough to extend credit.

TMC battles with constant pricing pressure from our customers. TMC has learned to do more with less. TMC is lean and productive.

Please tell us about TMC Workforce Solutions.
TMC Workforce Solutions is best known for providing Temporary Staffing across the United States. TMC is a Nationally Certified MBE. TMC also provides Value Added Warehousing Services for the two largest package delivery companies in the world.

TMC is most proud of the many lives that we have been blessed to touch. Whether through our annual Scholarship programs, Thanksgiving Turkeys Giveaway or our focus on Employee Engagement; TMC is about people.

TMC was built by a Team of Operationally Excellent Leaders that appropriately focus on Money, Morals and Morale. We believe that because we do the right things we have positive outcomes.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would definitely place great emphasis on a strong Sales and Marketing Growth strategy. Through the acquisition TMC started business with strong existing customer base. Our focus was on Operations and we did not have a growth plan in place. This has proven to be a critical lesson learned. TMC became dependent upon three large customers and we were at their mercy.

Today we are equally focused on Operations and New Business. We understand that in order to survive we must grow.
