Today we’d like to introduce you to James Suggs.
James, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Houston Barricade and Supply was formed in 2004 with my wife Susan after spending over 20 years in the rental industry. With a lot of consolidations of small traffic control companies into large groups, I saw the need for a company to provide the personal needs of customers. Originally, I worked out of a home garage serving a group of customers who are still with us today. I quickly ran out of space and had to rent a small warehouse and hire a people to help. As we continued to experience steady growth Oscar Aguilera was hired in 2007 as a manager. As of this year Oscar reached 10 years with the company. Two of my sons Chris and Mat Suggs, soon came to work with us. Chris manages our sign production shop while Mat helps in any way he can while not at his full-time job as a fireman. It wasn’t long before I realized I need help with websites, billing, office items and many other things.
Fortunately, our daughter Lesley Mitchell graduated from Texas A&M in 2012 and was able to fill that need. She has been instrumental in developing and maintaining our website while managing sales and office needs.
For the next few years we continued to rent more space until we had no more room to grow at our location on Jensen Street. This was a blessing since it allowed us to purchase our current 5 acres location at 6451 Aldine Bender in 2016. Our philosophy has always been to stay small and personal with our customers, rather than grow so large you lose focus on service. We currently employed 10 people. By years end we should have our new 10,000 sf. warehouse built in order to service our customers who need it today.

We provide traffic control and safety products to the construction industry. We also offer rental and setups for traffic control.
Houston Barricade rents and sells a variety of work zone products that are needed to keep your workers and the public safe. If we don’t have your item in stock, chances are we can help you locate it.
Houston Barricade is a family owned and operated business serving both large and small companies. We have been serving Houston, Beaumont, Galveston, Austin, College Station, Dallas, Ft. Worth, and other Southeast Texas areas since 2001. We are now shipping to a wide variety of locations!
I would say we are known for a quick response time to meet customer needs. We stand apart from others who try to build a company as large as possible, but forget their customers.
The thing I am most proud of is being able to spend every day with my family at work.
