Meet Jane Emma and Boris Jabotinsky of The Goodfor Company in Galleria Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Emma and Boris Jabotinsky.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jane and Boris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Entrepreneurship is a huge part of who Boris and I are. We always knew we wanted to be entrepreneurs but we could have never guessed that we would have the amazing opportunity to be on this journey together. Our business partnership evolved naturally, which is why we work so well together. A major turning point for us in our mid-twenties was when we had our daughter, Isabella. I call her my North Star because of the impact she has had on our life. There is nothing more motivating that needing to clothe and feed a living, breathing human!

In preparation for our new role as parents, Boris decided to take a leap of faith and open his own plumbing contracting business, while I had decided to return to school. It was an incredible experience to watch each other maneuver and grow into our new roles as partners, parents and business owners. Within a year, Boris’ exceptional skill and attention to detail had started to attract new clients and I was only happy to start working on some of the organizational aspects of the business. What had started as a spreadsheet or two quickly catapulted into a multi-million dollar business in a matter of three years. That (crazy) experience has proven to be invaluable for building The Goodfor Company into the brand that it is today.

Starting Goodfor was actually a deeply personal thing for us. After six years in contracting, I learned a lot about common business practices in the water filtration industry and what I saw was a total disconnect from the community.

My mission with The Goodfor Co is to be the antithesis to every bad business practice in the industry. Where others are shady, we are transparent. Where others are motivated by money, we are motivated by 5 star reviews and lifetime client value. Where others are ill-informed, we are masters of our craft, constantly learning and growing to ensure that we deliver value to every single home we are fortunate enough to be a part of.

We are so proud of what Goodfor is doing for the community!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think obstacles are often blessings in disguise. More often than not, a missed opportunity or a devastating set back has evolved into a greater path. Of course, we face our fair share of difficulty but we make the conscious decision to see it and accept it as part of the process. We make mistakes, rarely twice, and immediately improve and iterate. We are fortunate to have an incredible team that is dedicated and loyal to the community and our mission to make whole home wellness affordable and accessible for every family. When your team is driven to make a lasting difference in the lives of our community members, and not just to collect a paycheck, it makes overcoming obstacles as a team much, much easier. I might get a little gushy but I love our team.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
At Goodfor, we’re dedicated to helping you and your family live healthier, happier lives – starting with improving your water quality.

Water plays such a central and foundational role in our lives. Tap water is a major contributor to our chronic exposure to toxic chemicals and heavy metals. Our goal is to expose the truth behind tap water dangers and give people the necessary tools and information to make the best choice for their home and family. That is why we offer absolutely free in-home water quality consultations. This comprehensive water test gives residents a clear understanding of what is in their water, how it got there and what they can do about it.

What makes us special, outside of our outstanding certifications is our new subscription program. For most renters and lower income families, enjoying the benefits of water filtration has never been an option. Traditionally, you can only finance these systems if you are a homeowner with good credit. Our all-inclusive subscription service aims to break down the financial barrier and give every family direct access to powerful water filtration systems for their home, with the flexibility they need to keep it for as long, or as little, as they choose. When designing the program, it was important that we delivered comprehensive value to the user and ensured that they would be saving money by making the switch. We are proud to say that the program has seen tremendous success and we are excited to continue to build on that offering. Access to clean water should be easy – thats what we’re here for.

What were you like growing up?
Jane: I was the same then, as I am now! Outgoing, street-smart and fearless. I was never afraid of getting hurt – presumably why I am so drawn to the crazy life of an entrepreneur. I went to a few different schools which really helped me learn how to read different people and situations, as well as how to tell when something isn’t what it seems. These and so many other life lessons formed my gut instinct, something I rely on quite often. Ask anyone that knows me, from any age, and they’ll all say the same thing: Jane has always wanted to be in business. At the age of 11, I signed myself up for CPR courses and created my babysitting flyers using good old WordArt. Remember that program?! My freshman year of high school, I was making a steady salary of about $100/week, tutoring and babysitting children in my neighborhood. That really fueled my desire to be in control of my own money and my own life. The freedom that came with making money on my own terms was so rewarding (oftentimes far more rewarding than school). By my senior year of high school, I was working two part-time jobs (that I was fortunate to not really need) and had an internship with a mortgage company. I had my hand in as much as I could, learning from every experience and seeing the whole world as one huge opportunity.

Boris: It was pretty much the same for me. School was never my cup of tea but I was gifted with good instincts and a dedication towards the things I was passionate about. One of the funniest stories was from when I was six years old. My parents caught me collecting 25 cents from beach patrons, wanting to use a FREE public restroom, instead of playing in the water. Jokes aside, I was always eager to make my own way and had a knack for seeking out opportunities. Being part of an immigrant family, I watched my parents make something out of nothing, which gave me the confidence that I could always do the same. I enjoy the hustle and the hardship because it makes every little victory that much sweeter.
