Meet Jane Fowler and Jenai Tidwell of Fowler & Tidwell Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Fowler and Jenai Tidwell.

Jane, Jenai – please share your story with us.
Jane has been working as a LPC in the Houston area since 2007. Jenai, originally from Indiana, has been a LPC since 2006 and moved to Houston in 2013. We met working at the same counseling center in Katy. We discovered that we both had an interest in working for ourselves and decided to take the leap of faith in May 2014 and opened our own office. We started seeing our own clients and slowly began to grow. At the beginning of 2016 we realized that we now had more clients than we could handle so we made the decision to expand. We started by hiring a couple of part-time therapists and eventually brought on a full-time therapist as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a fairly smooth road. The biggest challenge has been hiring staff who are able to join the practice and be able to take the time to build their own clientele. Since we take insurance, the biggest challenge has been waiting to have our staff credentialed. It can take up to 6 months. Also, since we deal with insurance that can be the biggest challenge in terms of reimbursement. From a client standpoint, it has been smooth road and we really enjoy working in this part of Houston and serving individuals and families.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fowler & Tidwell Counseling, PLLC – what should we know?
Fowler and Tidwell Counseling, PLLC is an outpatient counseling center that serves individuals, couples and families. We work with all age groups. We have therapists who specialize in anxiety, depression, marital therapy, autism spectrum disorders, mood disorders, Christian counseling, and family therapy. As solution-focused therapists, our goal is to help our clients uncover their true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. We are most proud of our commitment to our clients and our accessibility to them as well. We also pride ourselves on the fact that if we feel that we cannot offer the appropriate services, we are committed to referring them to a more appropriate practitioner or level of care.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Jane Fowler: My family deserves a lot of credit, as well as the many therapists and doctors that I have worked for along the way. I have had two children since opening Fowler & Tidwell Counseling so my biggest thanks would be to Jenai. She definitely has carried the load on her shoulders, especially since I have had two rounds of maternity leave in the last 3 years. I would also thank my husband, Paul, for encouraging me and supporting me.

Jenai Tidwell: My family and close friends have been of major support in regards to pushing me forward to step out on my own and become a business owner. I have to thank Jane, who also encouraged me and ensured that we could make this thing happen. The partnership we have built is one that I cherish…but the friendship we have means that much more. Last, but never least, I want to thank God and my faith in Him. Without Him, Fowler and Tidwell would not be in existence.
