Meet Janie Johnson of Power Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie Johnson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In general, I have always enjoyed helping people. I was working in non-profit for several years and I really enjoyed working with children and families but I just began to feel like I wanted more.

I had this idea of helping small businesses grow. Initially, I did not know exactly how that would look but I knew I enjoyed doing administrative work and career coaching. My best friend encouraged me to read Steve Harvey’s book “Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success” and he really held me accountable for getting clear about what I wanted to do. The activities in the book along with a lot of encouragement and coaching helped me begin my journey as a business consultant.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle is marketing and showing up consistently on social media! As entrepreneurs, it is oftentimes a one woman (or one man) show until you see a lot of consistent growth in your company.

Trying to deliver to clients, update my website, post content, create email blasts, etc., sometimes feels like juggling more balls than I can handle. On days when I feel overwhelmed, I simply close my laptop and grab a cup of coffee. This is sorta like pushing the reset button for me. After that, I am back on it and ready to deliver!

Please tell us about Power Consulting.
I am most known for career advancement services. I specialize in resumes, cover letters and interview prep. I am most proud of the unique resumes I design. Each resume is different, it’s very personal, and it will always offer a strong, bold presence that demonstrates the client’s capabilities.

The thing that sets me apart from others is most definitely my passion and experience. I have always loved helping others win in their career and in their personal lives! When a client comes to me looking to move up in their career or start a new business, I am very invested in supporting their goals.

I have also managed and hired employees for several years, so I know what companies are looking for. I use these things to develop a resume and a plan for my clients that is specific to the position and company they are applying to.

My company also offers administrative assistant services to small businesses. I create policies/other needed documents and manage projects. In a nutshell, help businesses start and grow.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is family fun night, I love spending time with my family playing games, watching movies, or hanging out. Hands down, Lion King movie night was my fave. My brother and I still bond over that movie to this day!
