Meet Jasmin Loessin of Loessindiaries in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Loessin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started when I was pregnant with my first child. I had a high-risk pregnancy that made me quit my job and stay at home. My mother in law talked to me about keeping a journal online about my pregnancy journey as a way of keeping busy. She mentioned some bloggers and how they wrote their stories on the internet and I created my first blogger account. One of my co-workers had a blog and she also influenced me to get this journey started.

As I was doing research, I ran across this platform called YouTube and ran into the beauty community. Jaclyn Hill was the first person I ever followed and became obsessed with. She truly became the key to my love for makeup. I was so inspired by her and the way she was just sitting behind a camera playing with makeup and I wanted to do the same. I decided to purchase a few shadows from Makeup Geek and started practicing. It took me a long time to get comfortable with makeup and everything that comes along with it. As my confidence grew, I decided to create my own YouTube channel and upload makeup tutorials.

My journey has been a long one, four years to be exact! I am nowhere near where I should be and I am okay with that. I have grown so much from the first post and to me, that is the most important. Yeah, I do eventually want to grow and make this a full-time job but right now, that is not a priority. I am working on my Bachelor’s degree in Education and maybe even a Master’s degree in the future. I love working with littles and helping them become better human beings. My goal in life is to inspire the littles and make a difference in their lives.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not. It has definitely been a struggle. I have been on and off working on this journey while being a mom and a student so, it has not been easy. We are also not in a position where I can buy clothes or other items left and right to share with my followers. I think that is the biggest struggle. Bloggers need to constantly share the new and popular items, different outfits, accessories, products, the whole 9 yards. Yeah, that would be amazing to be able to do someday but for now, shopping my closet has proven more than fine… relatable if I may say so.

Loessindiaries – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
It has been a learning process, I started in our apartment with a lamp and a small drawer of makeup, my phone for a camera. I saved up for lighting, a good quality camera, more makeup, and put in countless hours of practice. Trial and error have definitely played an important role in this journey.

A few videos on YouTube, my own website to post product reviews, more tutorials, hauls, pregnancy, motherhood, and now I am getting into the fashion side of things. I am not going to say that I have had a lot of success being an influencer but it has definitely helped me grow as far as being helpful. I love sharing products and talking to strangers, relating to them and in the process, I’ve made incredible friends.

I can honestly say that I am so proud of how far I have come regardless of the numbers. I am also glad to say that makeup has given me an outlet as a mom. I have people who ask me questions about makeup or products or advice. I still cannot believe people trust my opinion when I’ve learned everything through the internet. It honestly creates a way to relate to other women out there. I think being relatable and showing all sides of being a mom and the struggles I go through definitely helps with having those special connections with my followers.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment so far has been the growth and knowledge I have gained. I started knowing nothing about makeup at all to now helping others when it comes to that subject. Women trusting my opinion when it comes to products or rave about a product I recommended that they now love has been incredibly reassuring. It definitely encourages me to learn more and to keep pushing forward.
