Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Hicks.
Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2015, after being hospitalized on complete bed-rest for two and a half months, my husband and I welcomed a courageous baby boy into the world. Unfortunately, this was no easy feat, as he was born prematurely with many health issues ranging from Hydrocephalus, a condition in which excessive fluid is on the brain and put pressure on the brain tissue, to Cerebral Palsy. In Wesley’s first year of life, he endured three brain surgeries, debilitating epilepsy, pneumonia, countless doctor visit and therapy sessions. Due to Wesley’s medical needs, my husband and I decided that it was best that I not go back to my traditional Monday-Friday work schedule. Of course, change can be great, but it can be scary as well. Not knowing what I would do, I had to make peace with the fact that my son needed me more than anything else. What I didn’t know was the birth of my son would be the birth of Ellis Productions as well. Due to my previous experience in the events and entertainment industry that I love so much, it made sense to begin my entrepreneurial ventures in the special events industry. During the initial start-up process, there were many hardships I endured and overcame, fear being the biggest factor. Fear of failing! Fear of putting my family in a financial setback to fund my dream. Fear of not being good enough! Once I understood my worth and value, that gave me the stamp of approval I needed to walk with the bold confidence I needed. Although success motivates me, Wesley motivates me to push myself beyond the limits. I’m determined to continue to strive for greatness so I can reach my goals. I want to be able to leave a legacy behind that my family can be proud of!
Has it been a smooth road?
Not exactly. Our greatest challenge is marketing. The digital marketing space for event planning is over-saturated with event venues, rental companies, and other event planning service providers that does not holistically provide planning services. Furthermore, Ellis Productions provide event planning services for the CORPORATE client, only. This is our biggest challenge because although we provide event planning services, we are often categorized with event planning companies that produce weddings and other social events for consumers. We are solely a Business to Business company.
