Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Perry.
Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From anime to fashion, art has always been a passion of mine. As a child, I enjoyed it. As a teen, others began to see it. As an adult, I decided to pursue it. So at 23 I decided to have my own business, but didn’t pursue it fully until I was 25. During that time, a major stumbling block for me was trying to find my own artistic style. The Lord gave me such a wonderful talent but I didn’t know how to express it. I discovered my heritage as an Israelite, and I just naturally gravitated to the genre of art the Lord called me to be in.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Anything worth anything is going to be tough, so of course there were struggles. How to price myself, qualifying for art shows, managing shipments, and many others on top of being a wife and mother was never a smooth ride. But, those struggles also were what made me who I am as an artist today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist who primarily paints. I specialize in black art, but more specifically biblical and Israelite art. I am most proud of my growth and my submission to the Lord in this process as an artist. By doing so, it has truly helped me prosper no matter what has come my way! I think people can see/feel that in my work.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Keith Mitchel is a HUGE help for me as a mentor, Dita Montana helped me with packaging and shipping, and my husband for accepting and giving me freedom to just be myself. One of my biggest supporters was my Aunt. She was the first person to see my talent, encouraged me to pursue it professionally, and even gave me tips and pointers on selling myself. She wasn’t the type to lie so if she said I had talent, I believed her!
