Hi Jass, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
To get to the beginning of my story, it is vital to talk about where I am today, as not only an internationally acclaimed singer and the world’s best Mariah Carey tribute artist but as an entrepreneur, producer, and founder of MUSIC ROYALTY CONCERTS with my partner J Michael Lucas, who also has an impressive and colorful resume of his own, performing as Michael Jackson all over the world. We are in the best way to describe it a team or power couple, but it hasn’t always been this way. Our solo careers and ventures as tribute artists, songwriters, and entertainers have dominated more of our lives, and I am originally from Scotland, UK. I trained in music and voice in London, United Kingdom at the prestigious Vocal-Tech, and completed a BETEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA in Popular Music and Performance the same college where English actress Kira Knightly studied, Westminster Kingsway College. J Lucas and I decided to join forces, and you could say our adventures in music throughout USA, Europe, and beyond are to reach another level of excitement for our fans all over the globe; as we currently plan more tour dates with our own venture MUSIC ROYALTY CONCERTS, and shows including; FOREVER MICHAEL AND ALWAYS MARIAH. We have received such a positive response from our fans on social media, and new and existing followers excited to see us visit their city with our shows. In previous years I have toured extensively throughout United Kingdom and Ireland as a singer and tribute working for top corporate clients, venues and performing at the celebrities’ favourite hangouts in London, from Bodosh Schloss to Farm Girl and larger venues such as Leamington Assembly, Leamington Spa, The Plug, Sheffield, Warehouse, Leeds and Hackney Empire, London. HEAT CELEBRITY MAGAZINE, UK published an article on my Mariah Carey Tribute that stated, ” The president of Angola paid One Million for Mariah.. he could have got Jass if he asked nicely..” a few of my previous clients also include; Cabaret Superclub, Belfast, SKY TV, Channel 4 Television, Glasgow Cabaret, Gala Casinos, The Woman’s Institute, Park Hotel, and The Royal National Lifeboat Institute. My first stop in USA was Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world performing a live residency as the ONLY singer in history to homage Mariah Carey on the Vegas stage. BROADWAY WORLD reviewed “Jass Meagher Embodies Mariah Carey…” and after headlining a successful run, performing six nights a week in Vegas, I relocated permanently from London to the states. I married my soul mate and business partner J Michael Lucas in 2020 after an adventure being on tour with famous boyband East 17 in Europe- which actually lead to global recognition in 194 countries for my work as a tribute in countries from South Africa to Dubai and UK. This exposure and amazing reaction to my live Mariah Carey Tribute performances on stage inevitably landed me here in the USA with a visa for international acclaim. I was hailed the world’s best Mariah Carey Tribute by the global press, including DAILY MAIL, and featured on the Wendy Williams Show USA, with additional interviews on Major South African FM and AM radio stations such as Capetalk567. Once I was over in the USA J Lucas and I having a previous friendship with each other and now a deeper connection were more than happy to work together as well as build our marriage and business together. We first forged our business relationship in Japan in 2017, when we did a 10-city tour together as Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, J Lucas was scheduled for, which sold out every venue from Tokyo to Osaka. I was asked to join the tour by the Japanese promoter and by J Lucas, as he had seen my videos and other press online and reached out to express an interest in working together in US, Japan, and UK. VH1 MUSIC had put me in a list of top ten tributes in the world in an article sharing my YouTube cover of Mariah Carey. My all calling me “One Hell of a Mariah..” it was titled .”..singers that sound exactly like Legends” J was also impressed by this, and it lead to his call. J Lucas himself is extraordinary as a talent and tipple threat so it was a huge compliment to me as a singer. J Lucas has performed over 20 residencies as Michael Jackson at top casinos throughout the United States, from Foxwoods the largest casino in US, to Harrahs, Flamingos, and Ballys Las Vegas; he is a Vegas Headliner and extremely talented professional dancer and live vocal talent. His corporate clients include MTV, Ceasars Palace, The American Music Awards, and Universal. He began his career as a child prodigy performing for Nickelodeon as a professional dancer, and also appearing in MTV videos for the likes of Britney Spears, Omarion and performing alongside Jabbawockezz. He was later noticed with his incredible MJ Tribute and asked to open for Flo Rida Major hip-hop group to crowds of 30,000 fans in the US. He was also picked from over 1000 other MJ tribute auditionees to star in Vegas. Las Vegas Weekly Magazine wrote J is “Carrying on a Legacy..” with his Michael Jackson Tribute, and ABC NEWS wrote ” A star was born…” in him. J has also performed in large productions in Europe and on the seas! With 10 years of tap, Jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and ballet dance training his talent is pretty special, and he immediately struck me with his caliber when I first saw him perform Billie Jean. This leads me back to our joint venture. After appearing in Vegas, I joined J on his contract in Alabama, OWA in 2020, just before COVID-19 affected travel and the entertainment business in its entirety. My upcoming contracts were delayed, and it was from here I decided to design and create our own production, concept, and website for MUSIC ROYALTY CONCERTS with a combined show as well as represent our solo acts to prospective new US and international clients for corporate gigs, venues, theaters, and events. With regards to our personal story, J got down on one knee on my birthday, May 23rd, 2020, which was my best birthday ever, and we celebrated our marriage together later that year. The press did ask to cover our wedding pictures and story; however, covid interfered with the size of our Wedding plans. We have since performed multiple sold-out dates in theatre and headlined a range of festivals as Michael and Mariah together in United States; people love the concept of the two most successful pop icons together performing live, our Double Billed tribute is a unique show. We book our own events and handle everything from marketing to ticket sales, production, press releases, merchandise, and more. The press was also so inspired by our joint affair; they covered our story as artists and as a dream team doing what we both love together on stage around the world. We also work in conjunction with multiple Texas promoters, who are responsible for bringing ALWAYS MARIAH and FOREVER MICHAEL to Sugarland Town Square, TX on July 14th and again with FOREVER MICHAEL on October 27th and 28th at LagoonFest this year. Additionally, we had a great experience performing in Dallas Fort Worth at Downtown Cowtown Theatre last year and had a full house for our Music Royalty Concerts production. We are excited to have shows upcoming in Canada, South Carolina, New York, Florida, and Mississippi. As a brand, we have multiple Exclusive shows available to book and are the only live tribute in the world to both the king and Queen of Pop, together on one stage with FOREVER MICHAEL AND ALWAYS MARIAH. I also perform a sellout Christmas holiday show, MARIAH CHRISTMAS as the unofficial queen of Christmas, which is of course, Mariah, the best-selling female artist of all time, as well as multiple internationally acclaimed live tributes to the female greats, including the voice Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, and a Divas show. J Lucas is also planning to perform a new show as Justin Timberlake, as he can incorporate the dance aspects of JT, as well as continue to perform with his MJ solo show FOREVER MICHAEL and in our combined shows! We will be working with top players from Las Vegas for some of our new and current projects. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenge of moving to United States from London permanently after headlining a successful run in Las Vegas just prior to COVID-19 venue closures was definitely a challenging time. I was supposed to perform multiple casino residencies as Mariah Carey all over US at that point, which got delayed and had me rethink my career path at the time. However, our events with our own company MUSIC ROYALTY CONCERTS, are definitely proving a success now and taking off, and to be honest, we likely wouldn’t have married with such a busy tour schedules at different locations; a few years back if things had worked out differently. Being a tribute artist also has its challenges and ups and downs. You have to stay super fit and in good condition to reach those high notes and perform long shows live. It is also sometimes discouraging when online trolling affects your mental health because you have to be online constantly and on social media a lot interacting with fans, clients, and followers. Not everyone is going to like you or what you do, sadly. Especially when you are doing well and running your own music and production company. However, the freedoms of working for yourself and building exciting shows for the people to enjoy are definitely rewarding. I live, breathe and become engrossed in what I do as a live singer because I love it, and it’s a gift that should be shared to inspire others. However, being a performer and traveling constantly can be stressful and exhausting, with many demands on your talents, character, and requires vast energy reserves. Although no matter what the challenge, the majority of people have a positive wonderful response to live entertainment, and the audiences amped-up reaction and enjoyment every show makes it all worth it. We love those fans and friends who have truly shown up to support us along the way in all our music endeavors and career highlights, from the biggest festivals and stages in Las Vegas to the smallest events that may be for charity or another worthy cause, we want to support! We have to remain as humble and human as possible as entertainers because we are role models, especially to those younger artists just coming up in the industry, and we are always in the public eye. It’s a great responsibility, and we take any influence we might have very seriously as well as make time to correspond with our fans as much as possible and update our official website to reflect what’s current in our news. That will always involve uncertainty and the element of surprise as well as greatness and big moments when everything comes together on stage.
