Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeff. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was thinking about getting into the swimming pool building business after watching one being built. I told my friend from church who worked in the wholesale landscaping and irrigation business and he told me about mosquito misting in 2003. I purchased one and saw that it was just a 55 gallon drum with a pump, motor and a timer on the lid. I met a guy through our young son’s soccer coach who was a retired engineer who helped us engineer the industry’s first high pressure tankless mosquito misting machine which was self-contained in a wall mountable aluminum enclosure with a live water feed. It allowed us to hit the ground running since we were the only ones with this technology offering a compact space saving design, more security, more capacity, quicker to service plus we could spray water only for testing or trouble shooting.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth when you create something that’s never been done before. I was actually extorted by employee number 2 who had helped us secure a firmware design from one of his contacts. When I asked him in the beginning how much he wanted to charge us for the work, he replied nothing, he just wants to help us out, but 2 years later he demanded that I give him a percentage of the company or he was pulling the plug.
MosquitoMax – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We manufacture mosquito misting equipment and larvicide dispensing devices and we sell online to home owners and to pest control professionals. We also install our equipment and provide service after the sale in the greater Houston area.
We have always been 100% focused on mosquito control so as a service provider we are more experienced than most of the back pack spraying franchises that have popped up.
Plus, we are an equipment manufacturer so we can repair not only our own mosquito systems, but any other brand.
We are forward thinking. Our most recent product is called the “Larvanator” design to kill mosquito larva and it’s the first ever patent pending automated larvicide dispensing device. We are currently working on a larger version for municipal vector control agencies in the US and abroad. Eventually, it could be on the shelves at Home Depot since there are currently millions of French drains in the US breeding mosquitoes.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Probably our misting machine patent, but the Larvanator patent when it comes through will be it, because we invented a new product category and some day will be the “Kleenex” brand of the tissue business.
