Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffery Dike.
Jeffery, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well I am originally from Pasadena, TX. I was a pretty good student for most of academic career. My parents were from Nigeria so weren’t the most privileged household, but we were making it. Our family took a major hit when I was 13 years old when my father passed away unexpectedly. This was hard to deal with and our family needed to adjust quickly. I have an older and younger sister, so it was hard watching them deal with everything, so I tried not to show my grieving to them. I remember my Dads wish was for me to attend the University of Houston, so I made that my goal after he passed away. I was accepted into the University of Houston my senior year of high school and made my new goal to graduate from the University while also becoming a leader on campus.
With that being said while being on campus I have gotten involved in several organizations including: The Activities Funding Board, The Orientation Team, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., The University of Houston National Pan Hellenic Council and Collegiate 100. I am also a Ted Bauer Scholarship Recipient; serve as the Alpha Phi Alpha Southwestern Region Chair of the College Brothers commission and I also sit on a National Committee for Alpha Phi Alpha as well. My goal is to graduate from the University of Houston by Fall 2021 and hopefully earn a full-time position in my field. This summer I participated in a summer program for one of the Big Four accounting firms and was also able to secure a position as an intern with the company for next summer.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t necessarily been a smooth road getting to where I’m at today, like everyone in this world I’ve had my struggles. The tragic death of my father was probably the biggest one, but I am a firm believer in what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. All my struggles have molded my work ethic and my belief that anything is indeed possible. And truth be told I have been blessed in so many ways, every time I have faced a major struggle God has out exactly what or who I needed in my life to help me overcome.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
No business but the thing I can say I am most proud of is being able to lead and be a role model to others. I feel like having someone you can look up to and follow is a major part of your journey to success so if I can do that to just one person in my lifetime that is a major accomplishment to me. I have role models all around me and I want to be able to do that for someone else.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck I believe in God.
