Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenni Majsterski.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Chelsea used to be a part of an old and very popular biker’s bar named Croc’s in the 80’s. After that, it served as the office of a boat repair shop now, Boondoggles Pub. Chelsea celebrated it’s 10th birthday this last July. It is mostly composed of reclaimed wood from various sources, one being the original Port of Galveston form the 1900’s. Chelsea started as a coffee house and over the years added a little beer and some wine and has evolved into a 100+ wine list and an amazing craft and specialty beer list both bottle and draft. And the food is really great, too. Simple, delicious and a lot of options both big and small. It’s cozy, comfortable and very unpretentious. Great for dates, private parties, weddings, amazing sunsets and patio sipping on a gorgeous day. Our patios are a must. Daily beer and wine specials and live music every Friday and Saturday night.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the owner, John Devereux was expecting a slow start. It started as a word of mouth kind of thing with very little to no advertising. We still operate that way too. We are always seeing new faces and are surprised that people are still just now hearing about us 10 years later.
Please tell us about Chelsea Wine Bar.
Chelsea wants to be a place for all. A quiet night out, a fun live music night with the friends and everything in between. I would say we specialize in delivering a comfortable environment with a great beer and wine selection and a beautiful place to have a drink and a bite. Our draft beer list almost always has something new on it, seasonal releases, small batch items, limited releases, etc. We are Chelsea Wine Bar and all, but our draft program is pretty impressive too. On the wine side, we try to specialize in wines that aren’t available most retail stores. We have a variety of ways for you to try new wines too; wine flights, winemaker dinners, special events, etc. There’s almost always something to do here. Daily specials and live music. Did I mention our two covered patios that are on the water with a perfect sunset view? An absolutely stunning place to pass the time with friends.
We’re probably most proud of Chelsea as a whole. The combination of the gorgeous environment, our amazing and friendly staff that is always ready to help you along the way and the wonderful friends that we have met. It’s like coming to a friend’s house when you walk throughout the doors.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think John would have done anything differently. We are constantly evolving and trying new foods and new parties, adding beer, more wines, adding customer preferences. Maybe, adding the large wine glass sculpture in the front to start. Pretty good other than that.
