Meet Jennifer Beato of J Bella Lashes and Brows in Baton Rouge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Beato.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was 32 with four young kids, working my fingers to the bone and sacrificing time with my family to make someone else rich. I had had enough. I decided to go back to school for esthetics. I told myself I wasn’t going to stop until I fired my boss. So, for two years straight, I worked two jobs and went to school full time. I look back and I can’t believe how I did that for so long and not burn myself out. Then I realized that it was my kids that motivated me to keep going. I wanted them to be proud of me. Being self-employed is so rewarding. If I had one piece of advice to give, it would be to keep a tunnel vision and know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way to get it. I still have more goals for myself. I’m not done yet. That was a promise I made to myself-keep evolving.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey had its ups and downs, that’s for sure. The sleepless nights, I’m almost positive I was on auto-pilot more often than not. If you knew me, you’d know my cup had three shots of espresso in it! I doubted myself many times. Other times I felt selfish for trying to better myself. The hardest part was being away from my children so much. However, I knew I had to do it if I wanted to provide for them. I hope one day they can look back and see that it was all for them.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m an esthetician and I specialize in skin care. I focus more on the beauty side rather than the medical side. I specialize in lash extensions and microblading. I’m known as the “lashtress” and my girls are my “lash addicts”. What I’m proud of most is not even the service I offer but the loyalty I have earned from my clients. They can choose anyone but they choose me. I’m so grateful for that. I have some girls who have been with me since the beginning when I was working on them in my bedroom. If that’s not loyalty, I don’t know what is. I don’t like to believe I’m any better than the next lash or brow artist but one thing for sure that sets me apart from the others is that I’ll take you at 4:00am or 11:30pm if you really need me. What shop can you go to that’s open like that?

What were you like growing up?
I was a loner! I only ever had a handful of friends at a time. Super quiet until you really got to know me. I was always more of a listener than a talker. Everyone always used to tell me I have an old soul and I was always taking care of everyone. My friends used to tell me that one day I would have a pile of kids. And here I am, with a pile of kids.
