Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennipher Melgar.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennipher. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I had always envisioned myself as my own boss. I mused over the idea of being in full control of my life in every aspect. Working a traditional 9-5 was just not an option for me… I was a young mother who at the time waitressed and bartended as my form of income. Day in and day out I contemplated about which route my life was headed and what I was destined for. It occurred to me that I have always had an admiration for makeup and all things beauty related. Something about transforming someone from the outside also ignites something from within; bringing out someone’s confidence and inner bad b**** is such an empowering thing that I knew I wanted to be a part of, I started practicing makeup looks on friends and coworkers. I then was progressively getting booked more frequently. I ultimately decided to take it a step further by pursuing a profession from this and enrolled into a makeup academy to get certified.
Fast forward five years and I decide I want to branch out and start my own brand, thus Jen Lash Co. was born. Everyone who wears makeup knows one of the biggest staple in a makeup look is false eyelashes. Lashes can take an average makeup look up a notch to a more flirty and sexy look in a matter of seconds. I designed five different styles ranging from a more natural lash to an absolute show stopping dramatic lash. My brand has now been in the market for four months and although starting from just an idea was no easy task, its been ever so rewarding and a big step towards building my very own empire.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a teen mom, creating my own success and excelling in a career as a young entrepreneur was a huge hardship. I was then and still am very determined to continue to thrive and beat any odds against my favor, Often times I felt overwhelmed with balancing being a mother, trying to enjoy my adolescence and mostly finding my path, I would constantly try and think outside the box in order to find ways to get more noticed and stand out from the now growing field as a makeup artist. Failure was not an option since I had a child watching my every move. After years of establishing myself as an MUA and building a clientele for myself, my next obstacle was starting my lash brand. I spent countless hours doing research and finally took the initiative to start from the ground up with not much knowledge or help, I definitely still do not have it completely figured out but with time I have come to feel confident with my future and appreciate the struggles I went through to start this business I can call my very own.
Jen Lash Co. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In the makeup side of my business, I specialize in makeup for brides, photoshoots, quinceaneras and basically any special event one would need professional makeup done. I have an in-home studio where I receive most of my clientele but I also travel to all of Houston and surrounding areas. Now my lash business “Jen Lash Co’ is an e-commerce site where I offer five different style strip lashes I handpicked and helped designed to fit anyone’s individual preference and any makeup look. I personally handle and fulfill all orders myself and ship out anywhere in the US. Unlike big cooperations I run my businesses by myself; I put my entire heart into every order and every single one of my beautiful clients as they were my own canvas and I were creating my magnum opus.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
As a makeup artist for five years and counting, I have met so many genuinely great people and made life long relationships within which I am very appreciative and proud of. I have been exposed to so many different kinds of people and places I would have otherwise never had the opportunity to meet if I were working in an enclosed cubicle for example. One opportunity that comes to mind is working at a pop up night club Drake had opened for the Houston super bowl back in 2017 and I was one of the makeup artists hired to do the dancers makeup. I had the chance to see a handful of celebrities and will forever cherish those memories. I have also been flown out of state for makeup and that was very exciting itself. With my lash business my proudest moment was definitely completely selling out of two lash styles within hours of releasing and selling out the rest of the inventory within a couple of days.
