Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Perez.
Jenny, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started practicing on my dog, my little brother, and my drunk uncles. I began my official training in my senior year in high school at age 18 to be a Cosmetologist. I have worked at a high-end salon right out of high school. I left to help my mother’s salons. Many years later I decided to work on my career path to become dual licensed as a Barber. After many of my customer’s encouragement, I ventured out into my own salon suite.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a woman in the male dominated Barber industry does come with struggles. There are misconceptions that women cannot be barbers. They don’t have male hair therefore cannot understand first hand. I have had to standing my ground and stand up to inappropriate and derogatory language from male peers. I have earned respect from my customers by intricate hair cutting skills in providing them with a great service.

I offer a traditional barber experience, hot later straight razor shave, industry leading barbering equipment. everyone is welcomed into my chair. I feel the proudest when someone enters with the weight of the world on their shoulders. They leave after sharing their struggles with a clean style, a better outlook on life and a smile.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is an amazing city. There is a niche for anyone somewhere. I feel this city has embraced all the cultures. If you chose to start a barbering business in Houston you will be successful by choosing an area that represents you and your style that you offer. Get out in your area and volunteer your time the rewards are fulfilling personally and for your business.
