Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Horton.
Jeremy , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a lifelong musician raised in a musical family. I’ve been playing bass for Moses Guest since 1998 and have played on over 100 albums. I still tour and record with different bands, and aside from running multiple businesses, I’m also a student, currently earning my second certificate from Berklee. I started teaching about 20 years ago and almost gave up right before I found School of Rock. When I taught at other places, the students weren’t engaged, but at School of Rock, these kids are excited. They come dressed up, smiling ear to ear, and ready to rock!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles we’ve faced are our location and our name oddly enough. We have a great building, but unfortunately we’re tucked behind a few other business with no road signage which causes us to get overlooked. Our name “Champion Forest” may indicate that we were in a different area of Houston. We’re hoping to have our name changed to “Tomball” and host a grand re-opening in the coming years
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a growing, passionate community dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education. We develop music creativity and proficiency within a culture of belonging, collaboration and optimism, all the while maintaining the highest ideals of safety and integrity.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Not to be scared or intimidated by anything.
