Meet Jeremy Jenson of Encore Search Partners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Jenson.  

Hi Jeremy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Grew up very poor, single mom had me at 16 years old. I remember having to move in the middle of the night every 6-9 months because we were being evicted. That constant change forced me to become social, while it had the opposite effect on my younger brother, who is 7 years younger. I was a straight-A student who didn’t really have to try hard; I was simply the smart kid that didn’t have to work hard; it just came natural. 

Dropped out of college at 21 years old because I found a career in Sales. I was the number 2 sales rep in a Telecom company out of 110 salespeople, and it was just a numbers game to me. I needed to qualify hard on the front end to close easy on the back end. I made $108k at 22 years old in Call Center sales. I then joined an HR Consulting company as an Inside Sales rep and saw the benefits of a monthly recurring revenue model. The Managing Partner of that firm then moved me to a direct hire recruiting firm that he was a Partner in, to bring in higher ticket sales, where he kept more of the profit. I was exposed to Venture Capital, Private Equity, Management Consulting teams. 

I then joined a pipe, valve, and fittings company at 24, reporting to the President as his sidekick, doing odd jobs like Financial Analysis, Marketing Coordination, IT implementation, etc. I was the smart kid that carried his briefcase and learned everything about business in those 13 months. I started an Email Marketing company at 25 years old, married at 26, had 3 kids, got Divorced at 35. 

After having the Email Marketing / Lead Generation company for nearly three years, I saw that I was having difficulty scaling beyond $300k in revenue because I could not clone myself, so I started a Recruiting company in January 2013, focused on Generating Leads for my own business, and then having recruiters fulfill those ‘job orders’. We experienced a market downturn in 2015, I thought about closing the doors, but instead, I doubled down and invested more into the business. We re-branded, changed the name of the firm from Market Share Solutions to Encore Search Partners, and I hired two VPs in 2016. One VP helped us diversify into recruiting wealth advisors, and then our VP of Operations was focused on implementing processes, systems, and accountability to scale the organization. 

We implemented EOS in 2017, and it’s been a rocketship of growth since them. My VP was promoted to COO and then later promoted to President in 2020. We did $10.83M in revenue last year, with approximately 33% net income and zero debt. Could we have grown faster with outside funding? – Perhaps. I see that now … but at the time, I wanted to save for a rainy day, and growing up very poor, I was always taught that debt was bad.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I possess many natural talents, I encountered many struggles. I grew up poor with a single mother where we were constantly evicted, I dropped out of school to pursue a sales career, started my own company, got married, had 3 kids, got divorced, started a new business, faced a market downturn, and have had to be resilient and pivot along the way to get where I am today.
