Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Street.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After a career as an airline pilot with Continental Airlines, I took early retirement in 1983. I formed a large flight school here in Houston training pilots from all over the world. In 1985, I sold the business and started a new company that specializes in aerial photography. The business has grown substantially over the years where I have served principally the construction industry, commercial real estate, manufacturing and oil and chemical plants. I typically will shoot about 900-1000 different locations per year both here in Houston and around the state of Texas and Louisiana. I have an office condominium in spring and have two assistants who work for me, Lana and Robin.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting out, I had no client base to speak of and had to slowly develop this over the years. In the early days, sometimes I would go a week to 10 days with no jobs. I always felt like I went the extra mile and it has paid off with my loyal customer base.
Professional Aerial Photography LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an oblique photographer. These types of pictures are also known as the horizon shot. This type of imagery is very popular with commercial real estate companies and oil and chemical plants. I am proud of the fact that I have some clients who have been with me for over 20 years. I think I am also noted for quick response time and very high quality of work. We are set apart from drone companies because we are not restricted to 400 ft. altitude and we can take images from any altitude required by customers.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
As in any business, I think the bottom line tells how successful you are and in my case, I have been very fortunate to have two excellent office assistants. They run the office and get the images out to customers so that I am free to fly and take the images.
