Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Huang.
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Whenever we start a journey, our purpose of intention allows us to strive for success. I said to myself, “How can I most positively impact my community?” Ever since I’ve endeavored to dive into public service. It doesn’t take anybody’s permission to make an impact.
In the beginning, I wondered, if could I even accomplish the tasks that I’d set before myself. Anytime I have doubt, I tell myself, “What if I can?” These words keep me strong as I face challenges and sacrifice. Denying myself meaning, it’s not all about me, and accepting my responsibilities as a public servant has undoubtedly been the theme for the last 2 years.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Every organization has an underbelly. For-profit, non-profit, it doesn’t matter.
Throughout my career, I’ve turned organizations from hanging on a thread to strong functioning workplaces. Only leaving it better than I found it, making sure those who are there, have a strong foundation and commitment to the organization’s mission.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about FarmersMarket.Love?
Being a public servant, I wear a lot of hats. It’s hard to describe exactly what I do. I’m most passionate about being the founder of FarmersMarket.Love where we create and care for Farmers’ Markets. Currently, our main sponsor is The City of Richmond. We host a First Friday Farmers Market in the heart of Historical Downtown Richmond, Texas. Connecting farmers and ranchers to the community are essential for sustainable agriculture. If we don’t have farmers, we don’t have food.
This last year has left us in a vulnerable position and looking to our neighboring farmers to sustain us. Food shortages and increasing food costs are on the horizon. It’s invaluable to know your local farmer. I want to make sure the farmer and neighbor relationship is stronger than it has ever been before in Fort Bend County.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My bible is my #1 resource for life, wisdom, and ethics. There’s no other document that promotes gentle self-auditing with genuine transformation. The Weston A. Price Foundation is the foundational framework for food. Their work has taught me so much about REAL food.
I also love the book ‘GAPS diet’ by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. Her protocol has allowed me to function at warp speed because of the healing and sealing of my gut lining, allowing the gut-brain connection to be clear and focused.
