Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Kirkland.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Makeup is more than a way to escape pale skin, acne, and dark circles. Makeup is a way to enhance your outward beauty and reflect your inner beauty. I always loved playing around in makeup as a younger girl. My desire for creating the most flawless result for someone grows daily. I started doing weddings as a freelance makeup artist and after referrals started coming in at a steady pace, I created a Facebook page. From there, I set up a simple website, then I created an Instagram account. I am the people’s makeup artist. I come to you; I work with your schedule. I just want my clients to see their true beauty, and sometimes, you need a little mascara and concealer to do that!
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been hard accommodating everyone while working full time. This is a passion of mine and somewhat of a “hobby”, but something I take very seriously. I do my best to work with my schedule and theirs, and if it doesn’t work, I have so many talented artists I can refer to my clients.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Makeup by Jessica K. consists of myself, a freelance makeup artist, and when needed, other freelance makeup artists that come along to assist.
Most of my clientele are brides and bridal parties, but I work with people that have events and photo shoots, as well. I have with several local hair stylists I work with, too.
I specialize in liquid foundation makeup, and a style of makeup I like to call, “the best version of yourself”. I started refining my techniques after watching videos of Mario Dediovanovic doing makeup on Kim Kardashian. Him, Patrick Ta, and Ania Milczarczyk (Australia) are a few of my makeup idols.
I’m most proud of finding my style in makeup. I used to think I had to cater to every style of makeup, but I found what I’m best at and love most, which is a more natural look, and I have honed in on that. I do not do hair or airbrush foundation. I work with soft brushes and sponges, and I blend out everything on the face. I want to see the person before I see their makeup.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love Houston! With over 2 million people, this is a great place for almost any business to start.
