Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica and Moe Mouallem.
We were married in March 2015 and knew pretty quickly that we wanted to open up a school of our own. We opened in March 2017 in the Grogan’s Mill Village Shopping Center in The Woodlands, TX.
Kyo Sa Nim Moe Mouallem is the founder and Chief Instructor at Momentum Karate. He is a Certified Instructor and Second Degree Black Belt in The International Tang Soo Do Federation under Grandmaster C.S. Kim. Kyo Sa Nim Mouallem has had a life long passion of martial arts and was guided by his instructors Sa Bom Nim William Ince & Kyo Sa Nim Yennie Ince of Ince Karate in The Woodlands.
He dreamed from a young age of opening his own martial arts school, he is now so blessed to be able to spread the Tang Soo Do Spirt to others full time.
Kyo Sa Nim Mouallem’s sidekick and wife, Jessica, runs the business and has her State Day Care Directors Certification.
Since opening, we have had the pleasure of teaching over 150 students through our various programs. Enrollment is at an all-time high and we couldn’t be happier with all the blessings that have come our way!
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any new business, we’ve faced our share of challenges. Building a clientele from scratch is always difficult, but support from the family, friends, and the community has given us a strong foundation already.
Our greatest challenge presented itself in July of 2018 when, after traveling to an international tournament, our school was completely flooded by a storm. It was one of the worst days of our lives. We didn’t know if the business would recover, but Tang Soo Do teaches us not to give up. Our students and their families came together, and incredibly, we were able to reopen our doors in just 5 weeks. What seemed like an almost insurmountable setback turned into an opportunity that left our school even stronger in the end.

Momentum Karate & Fitness offers quality instruction in the traditional Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do. We are part of a worldwide organization, the International Tang Soo Do Federation presided over by Grand Master Chun Sik Kim. We offer a variety of programs such as children’s and adult classes, school pickup & aftercare, holiday care and summer camps.
One thing that sets us apart is our collaborative learning environment – you are immediately part of the Momentum Karate Family when you walk in the door. We chose to become small business owners not only to earn a living but to make an investment in our community. Tang Soo Do is about much more than just self defense. With a focus on community, celebrating personal achievement, and values like respect and discipline, our students learn important life skills through their training. We celebrate every person’s achievements big or small. We have dreamed of this for years and our goal is to have each student become a better person than when we first met them.
We are a state licensed daycare facility curbing the challenge busy parents face by blending after school care/summer camp care into our martial arts program. We are not a typical daycare – we help unlock your child’s potential with martial arts training, discipline, and respect! Momentum Karate & Fitness is family owned and operated and offers a safe, comfortable environment to make learning fun! Children get their karate class and activities finished by the time their parents pick them up so it which eases the stress and time constraints typical extracurricular activities put on a family’s schedule.
We are most proud and grateful of our family and this wonderful community in The Woodlands, TX. Our family, students and their parents have helped us tremendously to reach our goals. Word of mouth is huge and truly is the biggest compliment. We are so blessed and appreciative to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to teach others.

We feel The Woodlands, TX is ideal for a business like ours. The rapid growth of the Woodlands and Houston area is great for business, and the close-knit community has been invaluable. If someone was just starting out – the biggest thing we would tell them is to be ready to work harder than they ever imagined they could and be patient – it takes time to build your brand and clientele. Keep pushing, stay focused and get your name out there whenever possible. There are so many times when we felt overwhelmed. As an entrepreneur you sometimes feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, but at the end of the day, the accomplishment of owning your own business is absolutely worth it.
The best part of this job is seeing our students, of all ages and backgrounds, work hard and excel. Every one of our students grow as a result of studying Tang Soo Do, receiving both physical and mental benefits. The look of pride, from the entire family, when a student earns a new belt or masters a difficult move is priceless, and we get a front row seat to it everyday. If you happen to look at Jessica’s desk during a test or belt awards ceremony, you will most likely see her wiping away proud happy tears. We love our students and nothing is better than seeing them reach their goals while supporting our goals as well.
