Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Musselman.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Living healthy from the inside out is my passion! My mission is to help everyone feel great and look great. What is the point of looking your best on the outside if your insides don’t match? To me, the two go hand-in-hand.
I am a Makeup Artist and Regional Vice President with Arbonne – a health and wellness company. You may be wondering why a makeup artist would partner with a health and wellness company. It is simple, really! Your skin is your largest organ and absorbs whatever you put on it. So if your makeup is loaded with toxic chemicals, those chemicals will be absorbed right into your bloodstream through your skin. That is bad news bears if you ask me. Arbonne carries skincare, cosmetics, nutrition and baby care. I am so grateful to be able to use a healthy cosmetic line on my makeup clients.
My interest in makeup has followed me around my whole life. It started when I was in the theatre department at The Woodlands High School. I loved learning how to transform one of my classmates’ faces into a character through applying makeup. Over the next few years, I sharpened my skills doing special event makeup while studying at Texas State University. After graduating with a degree in Mass Communications, I spent several years as a Producer and Assistant Traffic Reporter at a top news station in San Antonio. Makeup was still an underlying thread while I was in TV. Learning to do makeup for television was a fun challenge!
I was finally able to combine my love of makeup with my love for Arbonne products shortly after I married my husband, George. George – a financial advisor – took one look at Arbonne’s Compensation Plan and knew I needed to start my own Arbonne business. I had loved the products for nearly a decade, so it just made sense to become a Consultant. I started networking to grow my client base and happened to connect with a photographer. He encouraged me to start doing makeup for photo shoots and weddings. I am so grateful to have found a way to tie my two passions together.
After 3 short years in business, I promoted to Regional Vice President with Arbonne and earned my free Mercedes! My team is a huge part of my success. Sharing the business opportunity Arbonne offers with others has become one of my favorite things to do. It is inspiring to help other people learn to dream again.
Shortly after earning my Mercedes, George and I found out we were expecting. We now have a healthy, happy little boy! Because I chose to take a leap and start my own business, I am able to raise my son and work my growing business simultaneously. It truly is the best of both worlds!
Has it been a smooth road?
I have encountered plenty of obstacles as I’ve built my business. Each one has made me a stronger business owner. The most impactful challenge I’ve faced was the transition from Corporate America to Entrepreneur. Being my own boss is the greatest thing ever, but it comes with its challenges. It’s easy to fall into the bad habit of working from home in my PJs, but that’s not the path to success. I believe it’s important to get dressed, get out and network!

It is alarming how many personal care and nutrition products are packed with dangerous ingredients. I am honored to stand with a brand that promises to always provide pure and safe products.
As a Makeup Artist, I have the pleasure of helping clients feel like the best version of themselves for their wedding, photo shoot, special event or whatever they are getting dolled up for! I also teach one-on-one and group makeup classes. I love teaching women the importance of taking care of your skin, plus we always have a ball trying new makeup shades and learning the latest makeup trends.
The thing about my company that makes me the most proud is how we serve the community. Arbonne’s goal is to be the number one social marketing company that gives back. Being apart of Arbonne has shown me the importance of serving others, volunteering my time and giving as much as I can.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Houston area is a great place for a business like mine. My business does not require a brick and mortar setup, so I have the ability to do business anywhere, but I chose to do business in The Woodlands and greater Houston area for many reasons. First, this is home! My family has lived in The Woodlands my whole life and I love having a business here. I enjoy providing my community with excellent customer service and a topnotch product line.
If you were starting out in the personal care or makeup artist industry, I would recommend the greater Houston area as the place to launch your business. With nearly 7 million people here, there is so much potential for business.
