Meet Jesus Rivas of 7Stars Transmissions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Rivas.

Hi Jesus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I immigrated from El Salvador and worked short end jobs to provide for my family. Faced with hardships, I applied at a dealership for an auto parts position. One day, I noticed a transmission that was propelled above the mechanic’s head. It was straddling and before it could fall on him, I ran to help. The mechanic was so grateful he offered to teach me on the side. With his guidance, I was able to become a master technician and now have over 30 years of experience in this industry.

I went on working for dealerships but the ultimate goal for me was to one day have my own shop where I could leave a legacy for my family. I was after my pursuit for happiness and wanted to live out the American dream. I shared my thoughts with my wife and after much thought and prayer, God answered. Here we are today alongside my family servicing the community with affordable, reliable, and honest work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. There have been many hurdles along the way, some greater than others; but it’s been a learning experience. As an owner, I’ve had to wear many hats but I’m grateful to have my family help out as well as they each have their “roles” within the company.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a family-owned auto shop. What sets us apart from anyone else is our reliability, our honesty, and our prices. Overall, our advantage is my experience of 30 years working with transmissions.

We get customers that may come in with their car having serious issues and I try to break it down and let them know EXACTLY what the issues are. We always try to shop around for the best deals in parts, and our hourly labor is most likely less than the big-name car shops. Getting to the underlying issue is what we aim for.
We repair EVERYTHING such as transmissions repairs and overhauls, motor repairs, a/c checks, oil changes, etc.

The exception would be tires. Tire rotations are done as a complimentary to oil changes, but we don’t sell tires.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
As a child growing up in El Salvador during the war, often times young kids worked to help lessen the stress of the financial situation. When I was seven, my younger brother and I were given toy guns with a holster belt. I vividly remember walking down the street carrying a basket of tortillas on my shoulder, the other shooting the toy gun in the air, and my brother shooting his behind me. We may not have had it all but life was plentiful.
