Meet Jinny Reed of Adorned Beauty Parlor in Seabrook

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jinny Reed.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jinny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been doing hair for 10 years. I grew up here in Seabrook, went to cosmetology school at San Jacinto Central and moved to Austin TX right after graduating. I worked at a salon/spa in Austin and fell into working onset for fashion shows and traveling as a formal hair and makeup artist for special occasion needs. I loved the Austin vibe but found myself missing my home by the bay and all of my friends and family that were still in it. I moved back to Seabrook in 2014 and worked at a hip salon in the area and began re-growing my clientele. This past January I decided it was time to move on and open my own studio salon. I invited my longtime friend Devon Franklin to come on board with me as an esthetician and cofounder. She works at the famous Galvez Hotel in Galveston and takes appointments at Adorned Beauty Parlor a couple days a week for lash extensions, facials, waxing and makeup. Having my own studio has given me the opportunity to sell the brand I had fallen in love with “Devacurl” and reach out to curly girls in need of a curl specialist. I enjoying transforming distressed curls into a more beautiful state and educating my clients on curl routines that can be practiced at home. I also offer hair extensions; chemical services including Brazilian Blowouts and pride myself on balayage highlighting techniques. I retail Devacurl, and Alterna lines that both make a point to have high quality non-sulfate, non-paraben ingredients in all of their products.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges you face as a stylist. Moving is a big one. You really need to stay put if you want to be a successful cosmetologist. When you move (a big move, more than an hour away) you have to start all over. Completely from scratch. And you don’t make much for a couple years. I am still rebuilding my clientele. It can take a while. But for me it was worth the struggle to be back in Seabrook. And of course, there is always so much to learn as an artist in this field. You have to push yourself to keep up with the trends and not get stagnant with your craft.

At Adorned Beauty Parlor we provide excellent high quality beauty services. We are an appointment only salon. I offer hair extensions, hair coloring and highlighting, haircuts for men & women, keratin treatments, formal hair and makeup, body wave texture treatments and I specialize in custom cutting and coloring techniques for curly hair. My business partner offers lash extensions, full body waxing and facials. She specializes in brow shaping and customized facials to your skin type. We are proud to be one of the only salons in the area that specialize in textured hair! We are always striving for new knowledge in our field and keeping up with new and old techniques. Devon has a new service that is in the works of being offered at our location and is definitely something you don’t hear of in the area. Keep up with us to find out soon!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now we are working on expanding our traveling business for onsite weddings and events. We both have a passion for formal hair and makeup and love collaborating when possible!
