Meet Joanna Thielmann of Reflecting Light, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Thielmann

Hi Joanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From an early age, I knew the wellness of others would be my life’s journey. I began working in with children and families involved in the Florida foster care and adoption system after graduating with my BA in Psychology. while working with this population, I realized I needed more knowledge to make a greater impact and began pursuing my Masters. After completing my masters, i accepted a position supporting children and their families at a Houston area children’s hospital and obtained my clinical license. Since then I have worked in leadership, as a therapist at a school, and now in private practice along my journey to become a Registered Play Therapist.

Over the past 16 years’, I’ve been honored to support children and families through a multitude of life’s challenges.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I continued to work and serve children and family while obtaining my masters degree, clinical license, and play therapy education. I also worked at the hospital during the pandemic and became a mother during my journey to become a licensed therapy. My husband has been a phenomenal support throughout my journey.

We’ve been impressed with Reflecting Light, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been a proud supporter of children and families from various walks of life for over 16 years. My passion is serving marginalized communities, such as children and members of the BIPOC and LGBTIA+ communities. My logo is inspired by a rainbow prism, eliciting the hope and diversity of those I serve, while my company name and mission is to reflect the light in others. Trained play therapists can be challenging to find but, are vital in supporting the children of our communities. I want your readers to know that I embrace diversity. I offer an empathetic, supportive and judgement free space to foster growth and resilience. I am honored to serve individuals through any and all challenges that they may be facing.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We are intertwined; connection, support and mindfulness should be cultivated.
