Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Gayosso.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into photography began in high school, where I spent three years in the yearbook club writing articles, creating layouts, and putting together the yearbook. However, my comfort zone was shaken when I was tasked with using a DSLR camera to capture pictures for spirit week, and only one photo ended up being used. Disheartened, I vowed never to pick up a camera again.
Years later, my best friend’s desire to take gym pictures with his new camera initially struck me as a frivolous pursuit. But as I watched him create stunning work beyond the gym, I became inspired. I began taking pictures of objects, with my friend occasionally modeling for me. I sharpened my skills by practicing with his camera until he gifted me one on my birthday in 2018. I was excited and traveled to Austin, Texas, with my sister to capture landscape pictures of the city and have her model for some of the shots.
I continued to practice relentlessly, and my first photography booking was for my now husband’s family for their 25th anniversary. Slowly but surely, I started getting bookings for family portraits and maternity photography, which I still enjoy doing to this day. Over time, I gained confidence in my work and eventually transitioned into being a wedding photographer, which I absolutely love because it allows me to capture the love between two people on their most important and special day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Undoubtedly, my journey in photography was not without challenges. Mastering the art of capturing the perfect moment requires more than just clicking a button. It involves adjusting camera settings, posing subjects, accounting for weather conditions, and carefully editing images. It took years of practice and dedication to perfect my craft, and even now, I continue to seek new knowledge and techniques to stay current in this ever-evolving industry.
In addition to my photography pursuits, I have been an Allstate insurance agent for the past decade. Balancing my dual roles requires careful time management, especially during peak seasons. However, with experience, I have learned to effectively manage my time and responsibilities, making it easier to handle all my professional commitments.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional photographer specializing in portrait and wedding photography, and I am recognized for my caring and honest approach. My outgoing personality and reserve have earned me a reputation for charisma, which clients appreciate.
Reflecting on my achievements, I am particularly proud of my serious commitment to my insurance career from the age of 18, earning my licenses to sell insurance and financing my first car – a 2015 Toyota Corolla – by the age of 19. Overcoming a difficult 4-year abusive relationship, I began my photography business at age 22 and found the love of my life – now my husband – the following year. Our shared accomplishments include purchasing our first home and supporting my husband’s insurance agency business. In December 2023, I will complete my bachelor’s degree in Business Management at UHD. I am truly grateful for all the blessings that have come my way.
What sets me apart is my personalized approach. No two sessions are the same because each one tells a unique story, and I take the time to get to know my clients personally. This establishes a level of comfort and trust that enhances the session and leads to beautiful meaningful photos.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, I do have something to share with your readers. I have grown to truly value the power of capturing genuine moments over my career as a photographer. Beyond the technical components of photography, storytelling, and emotional resonance are what give photos their true life. I work hard to make every client feel relaxed and at ease since doing so enables me to learn more about their individual story and truly capture who they are. It gives me great joy to see how my photos affect people and families and how they use them to create cherished memories for years to come. I think that photography is more than just shooting images; it’s also about capturing priceless moments and feelings that will be cherished forever. Thank you for allowing me to share this perspective with you.
