Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Castillo.
Hi Joe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a small town called Eagle Lake, Tx, Just about an hour south of Houston. Growing up in a small town you don’t really see people around you become famous or have some sort of influence in the community, so you really wouldn’t know that chasing a dream is possible for someone like yourself. We all wanted to be either police officers, nurses, or do some type of job that was the norm in society. I always had a passion for videography and photography since I was young, but I never knew doing it full-time was achievable or even possible. In 2016 while I was 21 years old, I moved out of Eagle Lake to work a job in Rosenberg, Tx. While living there I realized how much different it is from a small town and how there are much more opportunities available. I then moved to Houston, decided to take a risk, and pursue photography and videography full-time. I started off by going to car meets and getting my name known… it was all downhill from there. I got noticed by influencers and athletes, and my dream then became a reality. It has been hard and a struggle every step of the way, but that is the beauty of it; it’s what makes it more meaningful. My one goal is to motivate and encourage anyone who has a dream to go out and chase it, never give up, and always remain humble.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not, and I don’t think will ever be smooth. It will just become easier for me to get through the struggles the more I face them. With becoming your own boss and chasing a dream, you risk stability and security that you would get from a regular job. Many people will say what you’re doing is crazy and you may seem alone but trust me…you are not alone. In those times where I was down and out and felt like giving up, I gave all my worries and anxiety to God. Every time He would lift me up and give me the strength to carry on!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do both photography and videography. I’d say I’m known more for my cinematic shots because I really show my creativity through them. Being a sports fan, my most proud moments have been working with and meeting NFL players and professional boxers. I believe my passion, style, and humble approach to my work sets me apart from others.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
DON’T GIVE UP! Please!!! Keep your head high, and always believe you are the greatest. Never look down on yourself or believe you are less. Continue to grow at your craft and never stop learning and being a student. Let your emotions become your work, it’s what sets you apart, it’s what makes our content art.
