Meet Joe Perez of Texas Chronicles: History, Mystery and Adventure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Perez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved shooting video and traveling. Growing up, I watched The Eyes of Texas on TV and knew that Texas was a place I wanted to explore. Having a background in video production and loving a good road trip sparked the idea to make videos of my travels through Texas. I’m a nine-time Emmy Award-winning Director so I knew that I could bring together the two things I loved and from there Texas Chronicles was born.

Three years later, we’ve produced over a hundred episodes. We travel around Texas and visit unique, fun, haunted and historic places and eat yummy food along the way. From the popularity of the original show, we have birthed two spinoffs: Texas Chronicles Pit Stop and Texas Chronicles Kids Edition (my son is the host). We love to see our audience get excited about traveling in Texas or visiting a new restaurant we have featured.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Texas is a BIG place! Our list of travel destinations and new ideas for places to feature grows daily. I have a full-time job in public relations during the day so the weekends are the only time we can devote our time to travel. My wife and kids occasionally accompany me to film, but 80% of the time I am alone so I have to be the Director, Producer and Cameraman. Luckily, I enjoy wearing all of those hats and I love that I get to be creative and share my love of Texas and making videos with my fellow Texans.

Texas Chronicles: History, Mystery and Adventure – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Texas Chronicles is known for highlighting travel destinations in Texas and spotlighting local businesses such as the restaurants that are featured on Texas Chronicles Pit Stop. What started as our love for good food and a desire to support local businesses, turned into our most popular segments.

After an episode of Texas Chronicles, Pit Stop airs we get feedback from the restaurant owners that they have to increase staff or change their hours to keep up with the new buzz and business the video generated. We are proud to support small, local businesses and hope that we can be a small part of their growth and success in the community.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The Houston area is massive just like Texas which is a travel shows dream! If you are just starting out and are limited to the Houston area, you would have enough destinations and content to last a lifetime.

We love living in the Houston area because when we can’t travel far because of other obligations, we can still film and produce videos for our show right here in our backyard.
