Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Pond, Josh Howell, and Jeremy Jansen.
Rockland Insurance was founded in 2008 by the father/son duo Harry and Joel Pond. Joel, who has a real estate background, partnered with his father, who had over 30 years of insurance experience. Harry and Joel named the company Rockland after Harry’s childhood nickname – Rocky. Josh Howell, an independent insurance agent and long-time friend of Joel’s, came on as a partner in 2009. Joel and Josh took over the management of Rockland at that time. During his tenure at a large-carrier, Josh met Jeremy Jansen, and they became fast friends. Jeremy joined Rockland as an agent in 2011 and became a partner in 2017. Now the Three J’s run Rockland and have grown the company rapidly. Rockland’s entrepreneurial spirit and innovation, plus the fun relationships they have with each other and their partners, quickly grew Rockland into a leading referral source for realtors and lenders in the Houston area.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Fortunately, Rockland grew quickly, but with quick growth can come obstacles – specifically staffing challenges and managing a large book of business. Joel, Josh, and Jeremy, as new business owners, had to gain experience along the way and there was a learning curve involved. Also, insurance is cyclical. For example, the summer is a busy and profitable time for insurance companies as more homes close during the summer and winter seems to be a bit slower. Finding the balance of managing this cycle was a challenge at the beginning.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rockland Insurance – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Rockland is a home, flood, and auto insurance company that prides itself on their partnerships with realtors, mortgage companies, banks, and builders. We are committed to reducing premiums for our customers and can do this by partnering with insurance companies that provide low rates and exceptional service. For example, Rockland saved one customer $6,000 a year because of the relationships we have developed with various insurance carriers. We are most proud of our ability to have a vision and implementing that vision. For example, Rockland now ensures 2.5 billion in home values, has 300 closings a month and has grown our staff from 2 to 23. Our clear idea of Rockland’s future and our willingness to get there by fully investing our time and money towards these efforts is also what sets us apart from others in our industry.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our future plans include expanding coverage to more states, developing partnerships with builders and those companies with a non-traditional real estate approach. We would also like to expand our physical presence in various cities.
