Today we’d like to introduce you to John Bertolino Sr..
Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our organization started with a phone call from the Jerry Louis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon asking if we could feed the people working their phone banks in the Houston area.
42 years later, we’re still helping people by responding to disasters as well as helping raise funds for other nonprofits, people in need and feeding first responders.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a slow steady building process, but Covid nearly shut us down.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a full-time law-enforcement officer for the past 42 years. I’ve been part of the Lighthouse Charity Team for the past 14 years and took over as President three years ago..
I’m thinking it’s just about time to retire from law-enforcement and dedicate my volunteer efforts full time at the Lighthouse Charity Team.
I’m mostly proud of the team that we’ve built comprised of volunteers which are more like a family.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We have weekly week meetings on Monday evenings, where we discuss upcoming training events to stand ready for disaster response.
We have to keep our equipment, ready to travel at a moments notice and keep food in supply for rapid response.
Pricing:
- We ask for donations to cover the cost of food. We don’t charge for labor or equipment.
