Meet John Cartr

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Cartr.

Hi John, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey began at six years old, I saw my mama lose the crib one day we were locked out with nowhere to go.

From that day on I said we can never struggle again. She knew I had musical ability because it runs in the family, she was a gospel singer. But me, nah. I told everybody I was gonna be a rapper and they laughed. So I changed my career goals to like a cop or something.

I did hoop as well which also not many supported but encouraged way more than music. Once I got to college, it was either playing ball and going to the NBA or not finishing school.

One day the college basketball coach said I couldn’t try out because I didn’t have an original copy of this paperwork from my doctor… on some dumb stuff. I was so devastated and never got a physical again. Since then music has been my primary focus and has taken me a lot of places.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path to becoming a successful music artist has not been easy or smooth and if anybody tells you that it is their cap.

The hardest thing ever is going against the crowd. Convincing people they should pay attention to you, buy something from you, and listen to you because, at the end of the day, that’s a population thing. Psychology and human nature come into play. It really gets deep for real.

Betting yourself to be successful in anything comes with its own set of challenges. That’s the price to pay to get to the top. It’s a journey of ups and downs. These are necessary experiences that prepare an artist for the right moment!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The work I do is primarily recording music with my group JDR MOB. I want to get more into writing music for other artists as well. I don’t really know what people know me, for now, other than the work I put out and me being the brother of Isshon Mar$… When it’s all said and done though people gonna know I’m the guy that made the hits.

Bangers all day, every day. My proudest moment was with the producer legend, Zaytoven.

The fact that I and my brother Isshon Mar$ were chosen out of 40,000 artists to work with him was incredible. I already knew we had the talent but it made me realize how much potential we really had. A goat really sitting with us telling us we are hard? That’s crazy! What separates me is I was born to do this. It’s something I’m supposed to do for those around me and the people that the music will reach. I’m learning more about my purpose each day.
