Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Song.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started this company because I wanted to expand my reach into another industry. I have been in the clothing business. I read that during the great recession, that cosmetic companies were still making money. Reasoning was that women, will always want to be beautiful. I also knew that there was a growing influence of Korean culture in the USA. I wanted to combine beauty and Korea together and came up with HallYu Cosmetics., especially in Texas. I wanted to help Texans find Korean beauty products with ease. I wanted to open a shop where they would be able to come and try out the products since most of the ingredients are very unique. Today, after beginning open for a little over 1 year, I am working on our 2nd location in Austin, TX.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is always full of obstacles…. that’s what makes it exciting right? Some challenges have been with things that are out of my control, such as building permitting, finding good employees, and marketing a new niche company.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the HallYu Cosmetics story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in Korean cosmetics. In Korea, there are “road shops” cosmetic shops gathered together right next to each other. My concept is to bring all the shops of Korea to Texas. Have a single spot where you can test out the products to see if it would work for your skin. Having a location for customers to actually come to and test out the products is what we specialize and is proud of my company for. This is the main difference between us and our competitors.
