Meet Jonathan Rashun in South

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Rashun.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jonathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for music started out as early as I can remember. Being the youngest of 3 in a household banging on pots and pans, getting on everyone else’s last nerves. Around the age of 9, I began playing drums at church. My passion for writing raps lyrics started around middle school and developed through high school. I dropped my first mixtape around 2009. I followed up with a few online songs over the early 10’s, which led me to being number one on the Reverbnation Houston Hip Hop charts. That was a dope moment for me—a small goal I always wanted to achieve. In May of 2019, I release my recent music project entitled Journies on all digital platforms.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Too many to count. But I’ve learned to differentiate my life and my life situation. “Whether high or low, up and down, I can say that I’m blessed” The road to anything worth having or just simply living is not going to be easy, but the gift is in allowing those things to come and go as they are as you continue to remain on the course of self-actualization.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
I’m an independent Hip Hop artist. I make music from my genuine perspective in hopes to inspire. What sets me apart is my unique approach to everything. I try to see beyond the reality we’ve created for ourselves as a human race, and I understand that most people struggle. Be it financially, mentally, spiritually, or a combination of them all. I rap about things that I feel are real to me and are true to life.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Most High most definitely. My mother and my sister. Jay Dabney and Oquine Nickles. Definitely, a lot of people to name. They all assisted me on my life journey in many countless ways.
