Today we’d like to introduce you to Jördan Baldwin.
Jördan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
While in high school theater, I enjoyed the transformations that makeup could provide. I went to Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts in Burbank, CA to further my knowledge. Afterward, I attended the Aveda Institute and went to a variety of additional educational classes, including lash extensions training. After graduating from the Aveda Institute, I was asked to work there. After a short time, I became an Esthetics Educator Team Leader and later a Spa Coach. I received a few accolades during my time at the Aveda Institute, one being the prestigious Educator of the Year Award from the Aveda Corporation. I continued my education in the world of beauty and wellness. With encouragement from my team members, I started my journey with practicing Reiki. After several years of being on the education side of the industry, I decided it was time to switch it up by going back to providing services on people. I forgot how much I enjoyed working with my clients. From the beginning, I wanted to have a workspace that I could call my own. In January of 2020, my business partner, Katie, and I kicked off a boutique spa – Beauty Bungalow! The majority of the services I currently perform are lash extensions.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been relatively smooth! I am a bit of a planner and I’ve tried to think of every sort of pitfall that could possibly occur and plan for it. One pitfall that no one saw coming was COVID-19. This pandemic led to a series of unfortunate events for many industries, including the beauty industry. I’ve been extremely fortunate that my pricing model has helped me maintain success during these trying times. I encourage my clients to purchase memberships instead of buying à la carte when they are starting with a brand new set of lash extensions. This saves my clients money in the long run and establishes a returning client for me. Although the services I provide are currently paused due to the pandemic, those monthly memberships are helping me from going out of business during this time. My clients understand that they can cancel their memberships at any time, but because of my established relationships with the most have decided not to cancel. I am especially grateful for that as a small business owner in my first year of practice.
Beauty Bungalow – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Beauty Bungalow was created with the mindset that you should feel relaxed and comfortable. The bungalow home my partner and I found to be our space, really brought that atmosphere to life.
The majority of the services I currently perform are lash extensions. This is what I specialize in. I also provide Reiki, which is a practice that aids in developing emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Reiki is also said to induce deep relaxation, help people cope with difficulties, relieve emotional stress, and improve overall well being. Overall, Beauty Bungalow offers lash extensions, facials, massage, Reiki sessions, and more!
I am proud that I have been able to provide people with services that make them want to come back. My goal for every client that comes in to see me is that they leave feeling better and prettier about themselves. I set myself apart through education. When someone comes in for a service, I make sure to educate them and answer any and all questions they may have so that they fully understand the service they are receiving and know what to expect. My clients really appreciate the time I take to teach them about the services I provide and that I listen to their questions and concerns. Many times, these conversations shift to life topics. This has helped me become close with a lot of my clients.
Educating clients and taking the time to help them understand. I feel it creates a sense of comfort and trust. Proud to say, I have been apart of the beauty industry for almost twenty years!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Creating relationships with people during my time in the industry. Those are some of my most fondest moments. And being able to still reach out to those individuals to this day. A few months ago, I worked on a short film. I’m amazed that I still have things to check off my list of dreams and aspirations. That list hasn’t stopped growing, I hope to have more moments to look back on!
