Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Witkop, Greg Witkop.
Greg and Jordan are both Chemists by formal training. They both sold laboratory equipment for the same company. After 20 years on the road, Greg wanted to start a business that didn’t involve traveling. In his travels across the country, he always stopped in candy stores to pick up things for his kids. After many visits, he became aware that candy stores have one thing in common. Happiness! Smiles and laughter were always present. After several meetings with some of the candy store owners, he put together a plan to start one in The Woodlands, TX. This is where Jordan came in.
Greg isn’t much of an artistic person and leaned on Jordan for ideas on store design and layout. Together they spent hours poring over store designs and of course candy choices for the store. Once the store was open it was an instant success. Families came and the joy of candy spread rapidly. They offer free samples to every customer that comes in the store in hopes of helping that person find a new favorite. The store has hosted birthday parties groups, even had a scavenger hunt that involved the store. The store is part of the community now and in return, Jordan’s Sweet Shoppe donates to the local schools to help their fundraising efforts and to local sports teams for their year-end award ceremonies.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a smooth road so far.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a candy/sweet store. With over 1200 different candies to choose from, you are certain to find what you are after. We have over 250 bulk candies, sugar-free candies, allergy-free candies, hand dipped Blue Bell Ice Cream cones as well as Hawaiian Shaved Ice. Our specialty is providing memories, whether they are old memories from your youth or making new memories with your young family. The most fulfilling thing for us is to watch the children come in with big eyes and large smiles, sometimes even the adults come in the same way. There are very few places that have this effect on people and we are happy to be a part of it. One thing people will get when they come into Jordan’s Sweet Shoppe is a smile, a warm welcome and helps to find that perfect sweet. After all, 1200 items is a lot of choices.
What were you like growing up?
Greg: I grew up in Southern California and in Oregon where I went to Oregon State University getting a BS in Chemistry. I played sports as a child as well as the piano. In my teen years, I took up golf and skiing. My first job was working at McDonald’s, becoming a floor supervisor at the age of 17.
Jordan: I grew up in middle Georgia and was very much involved in dance (ballet, tap, modern) throughout my childhood and worked as a dance teaching assistant as my first job. I earned my BS in Chemistry from Georgia College and State University and my Ph.D. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University.
We both are beach lovers and are active in a local running group in our spare time.
